If you have facial hair, you can't expect a good seal around the edges of the mask, so there will be some air getting to you (and out of you) that is unfiltered.

Toddlers are just werebears. The crash might be real, but there has been research into the "rush" part and its been shown that kids really don't get a rush. It's probably just confirmation bias on the part of adults. ht

These days, many companies are cool with it as long as you use your personal machine, on your own time, avoid using any work resources, etc. Usually it's baked into your employment contract.

Nearly everyone I know has a 24/7 irc bouncer that is connected and stores logs. It does indeed raise the complexity of using irc but you can bet for sure that some subcultures on irc behave this way
