Clickbait title. The actual cost was $2,529. Nothing frugal about it, so don't waste your time.

I use Telegram the saved messages thread, which I have pinned to the top. You basically send messages to yourself.

It's best handled case by case as with most decisions. Should one build their own database? Probably not. That introduces more complexity. What about an npm package to pad strings? It's simpler to write that logic than to deal wit

This can be considered minimalist. For example: We use Heroku instead of a custom AWS setup We use Sentry instead of a hand rolled exception tracking system We use Postgres instead of a custom We are minimalist in the sense that we minimize

Functional languages rest on two main principles: (1) Immutability (2) Transforming inputs to outputs Shared mutable states creates a lot of accidental complexity and makes writing concurrent applications harder. I recommend the talk "

Even if the conclusion may be true, I find the argument unconvincing. There exist large differences in intelligence between some species, so it's plausible to think the same could be true within a species.

I do this too. I use Sublime text in distraction free mode with a git plugin so I can easily commit/push changes. On my Mac, I can do the 4-finger swipe to check my full-screen notes. Usually I have a folder structure like notes/2

I wonder if the real solution to the indirection is better tooling. If I can't easily see the contents of is_foolike, should I stop writing my code like this or should the editor be showing me these details more easily? The real proble

What happened is that thanks to miniaturization, devices of a similar form factor were combined. The camera, GPS, phone, music player, and so on are can now fit in device. There was an element of timing too. For example, the cell phone came

If there is high level of coupling within a system it will be difficult to contain the rewrite to a single subsystem. In this case, it may make sense to rewrite. Alternatively, you can gradually remove unnecessary coupling before applying t

Shared mutable state is just one cause of accidental complexity. In section 4.2 of the paper, they also talk about "Complexity caused by Control". Quoted: > The problem with control is that very often we do not want to have to

One size does not fit all. UI creation is best handled by a WYSIWYG editor, animations are nice to visualize on a timeline, and math formulas are clearest when written as is. Picking the wrong model creates a mess. Try to express a sorting

CQRS/ES requires a different way of thinking and a different set of best practices. This could make it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. That being said: - Dealing with failures can be better than traditional systems if done properly

We use a flavor of event sourcing in production (Elixir+Postgres) and I have found many "rules" can be broken while still maintaining the core benefits of CQRS/ES - We use Postgres as the event store and all of our other proj
