You could do, but maybe they never will. I have no idea. But the point is, in 2027, 2028... your new code doesn't have to suffer from these frankly 1970s issues You could also gradually fix the internals — if you wanted to

You have no idea if it was a lie or not. I routinely have my clanker fleet spend a couple days toiling on some crap that I assume I will throw away, but it turns out pretty awesome, so I keep it. It's entirely plausible that when that

I don't think you want to achieve any benefits of Rust in the initial port. Because at this scale you will definitely introduce new, and probably subtle, bugs that are not present in the Zig version. You just want it to be the same

We have hundreds of projects that run on Bun. (Some are Bun-specific for whatever reason, but most are "runtime-agnostic TypeScript code that runs on Bun, Node 24.2+, and Deno, but that means they run their test suites on Bun, in addit

It's also a recipe for failure for ports in general. Same goes for the "not idiomatic Rust" comments above — that would be nonsense. You want to port it as faithfully as possible to the original, porting it bug-for-bug, quirk

This is funny, but Copilot is still an interesting case-study and (probably) failed predictor of where we are headed. We all know, and have known for a long time, that the AI labs selling dollars for a nickel are going to pull that rug, and

Exactly the same way that the `cancelled` of my youth became `canceled`. By being misspelled so often that the misspelling won. In this case, it's not clear who wins yet — "lose" may loose, or mount a comeback, resulting in &

Well I mean, recently because they have no idea how to make good UIs, and have not read their own enormously detailed (and excellent) Human Interface Guidelines tomes from 10, 20, and probably 30 years go, and have basically regressed t

It's true this is a mess, but no application should have a menu by icon as its only means of access. It's OK to offer that as an option , but all applications should be capable of presenting a user interface when launched from

It absolutely is , but the fundamental misunderstanding around this seems to be that "effectively using coding agents" is a superset of the 2023-era general understanding of "Senior Software Engineer". At least when y

I don't think that's what is being said, mainly? Like that's why Anthropic wants to have it in the contract(s) with the government? At the same time, it is expressly illegal in some circumstances; that was the whole core of t

Nobody gives a shit about jumping to #1 in the app stores, at this scale. If US & A really goes full-Huawei on Anthropic, they can't IPO. It's an existential crisis for them. I think they can survive in some form, somehow, b

That fear proved well-grounded. While it probably doesn't seem as big of a deal now — in this era when we just serially assassinate heads of state we don't like without any pretense otherwise — the US indeed did direct its Europ

I don't have that problem (new Safari window in < 100ms) but I believe you, LOL. Because I have the problem on 7+ Macs (as in all mine, my kids', my sister's and my dad's (all of which I am primary tech support on))

You can thank short-sighted, busy, unprincipled-asshole parents (like me and my wife) for this. Would I buy each of my 3 kids an iPad every 2-3 years[1] if they had this capability? Hell fuck no. I'd let them use my iPad, which I mysel

Well if you can get $100 worth of X on credit card for $98, but you can buy the same thing with cash for $97, aren't you actually paying 150% of the "cash back" with your own money? ¯\\_(ಠ_ಠ)_/¯

I guess that makes sense. I'm a 280ppi convert, so I judge Mac users with pity — Linux and Windows work perfectly with my 31.5" 8K display (from fuckin' 2017 btw...) but Macs can only drive it at 6K, which adds a fuzz factor.
