That is one of my favorite books! I stumbled across it years ago and read it without even reading the summary on the book jacket — I highly recommend the book, and also going into it knowing as little about the story as possible.

The shift from X11 to Wayland was a natural disaster that the fragile Linux ecosystem couldn't afford, and failed to deal with. It's set desktop Linux back more years than anything else I know of, although hard science-y numbers o

Welcome to fucking software. I updated Mac OS X one time (or maybe it was just iTunes) and it deleted my home directory (remember that one)? I didn't open the mail promptly and missed the recall notice that my car's antilock brake

UPDATE: There is now a very good simple explantaion of the bug, and how it became much more likely to happen recently, even though it has existed for a very long time: https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/15

(>_<) Oh man, I knew about [0] when I posted (which is why I said it just reduces the chance of hitting the bug (by a lot)). But after spending all Saturday JST on it, I went to bed before [1] was posted. Skimming through #6958 though

Yeah, I am running a similar script I got from the GitHub bug thread; so far I have not found any suspected-corrupt files at all, except for in the files generated by the reproducer.sh script, e.g.: Possible corruption in /mnt&#x

It's a very bad bug, so it is important to note there's an apparently-effective mitigation[1], which doesn't make it impossible to hit, but reduces the risk of it in the real world by a lot. # as root, or equivalent:

Uh, why not? You don't have to use the trial version font in every application. (I almost bought it after trialing it for a few days, but ended up going with MonoLisa.)

Same here. And I put in my calendar to make it obvious to others that it's there. I used to put in in the issue-tracker, too, but lately our team manager started reducing the "normal" expected story points to a level that ref
