Sorry for being slightly flippant, but I would think that panic is a good idea if one is dependent on Java.

Are you defending people (or perhaps friends or family of people) who use IE6? You have absolutely no case there.

There's only one set of Rob Pikes and Ken Thompsons on this planet :-/

I had a comment above saying something to the effect of "not everyone can be Ken Thompsons" and then edited it out, sorry.

Creating an object: Greeter greeter = new Greeter() or var greeter = new Greeter() Defining a constant: static final myConst = 1 Plus there are classes, interfaces... It's just Java?

Only a moron would refuse to use a good tool if it's written in a language that is not said moron's personal idol. Except of course if the language is Java.

What a dreadful idea. How could I prove that you wrote me what you wrote me in the first place if you could edit your email after I received it? Email is not facebook, people.

Then again, Google was new with no baggage of previous wrongdoings. Many people remember how Microsoft operated in the past (and I suppose, in the present).

Why on earth didn't anyone seriously think about Inferno for mobile devices? How much polish could've gone into Inferno given all the work on things like Maemo, Meego and Android...

"Kids can learn Scala." Kids can learn anything. The question is, can adults learn it or do we have to wait for the kids to grow up?

That's a ridiculous defense: they were obviously swayed by fashion at some point. It just happened several years ago.

I wouldn't call it obnoxious. I would call it plain stupid, and if it is not some sort of sarcasm, I would not trust anything David Pollak has to say about anything from now on.

I have done a few real, production projects with Haskell, and I've come to realize that a lot of interest in it is hype. The paradigm is neat, the language is relatively well designed (considering that it's an academic committee language)

"At one point, Biden, who had been fingering a rosary, turned to Mullen, the Joint Chiefs chairman. “We should all go to Mass tonight,” he said." Not to ask forgiveness for breaking a commandement, I would wager.

I think I was oh-too-cleverly pointing out the absurdity of having so much memory in a laptop and thinking it might not be enough.

It's a bit superfluous, but I don't think it's too much. Besides, the OS can use the extra memory as cache/buffers.

Most of the things he listed as "good technologies" are actually horrible. Has anyone been to a webex training that was even remotely useful? Salesforce? Process management software?
