What? "The city will pay the Redmond, Wash. software company a little more than $1 million per year for the new product." But surely they could use Hotmail or something right? That wouldn't cost $1 million a year? I'm missing something.

No. I've started joining groups in my country regarding development and simply posting my opinions in discussions. This has led me to become a wee bit more known than I was before, and I've had several huge IT recruiters add me to LinkedIn.

Showering us with augmented reality contact-lenses so we'll be able to see geolocation-facebook. I.e. look out the window of my office and see conversations between people and join in if I must. Wait. Facebook isn't that awesome. :)

You probably should read this for some more background: http://www.smh.com.au/technology/security/security-experts-g... "I have no ethical qualms about publishing the photos," he said. "They are in the public domain." I think the quote hi

I still can't wait for the day I can simply lick my choice-of-screen-at-the-time to get a high, akin to LSD. :P ponders whether licking an image of blotter paper works just as well

It doesn't? The photograph has people in it, and the guy is talking about the people... I guess.

I'm not sure how it can be moderated. If I say you have to pay X to some military police man in the middle east when travelling east, but it turns out the guy isn't corrupt... ouch?

Very cool! I hope they can pull it off because if they do, it'll lead to some very interesting stuff... Be even cooler if you could buy them with cash...

I thought the article was written quite badly... If you're interested in these sorts of stories, there's some great books out there (usually in the form of a autobiography).

I never thought expanding something would be so fun. Brings a new meaning to story telling if you do it right. :)

My only gripe is it's quite difficult to find a way to transfer real-currency to BTC easily, and fast. I have to pay $25 - $50 for a bank transfer if I only want to get 10 BTC? It was easy and useful to use PayPal, until everyone started ge

I work in healthcare IT as a software developer, and I only have one thing to say: Bureaucracy. Honestly. When you have 12 managers for ONE project, that has ONE developer, nothing gets done! Outsiders think the reason it's so hard is becau

I use http://www.stereomood.com/ and click for a random mood until it suits me - however I'm hearing impaired so as long as the tone is nice, I enjoy it. (i.e. I cannot pick up on the 'words')

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story" Honestly, it doesn't really matter if people lie about how long they took, it'll just make the rest of us rage, and try do better - which in my books, is good for programmers.

This place is definitely nice. One thing I've found with even very basic tutorials on something, is that if you read through it carefully, write each character of the code by yourself -- something will click, and it'll stick with you. Skimm

On a second thought, you're absolutely right. There's really no way I can tell what's good engineering or bad in present time until a few decades down the track.
