I did not know about DMC and am very happy to see this as I've often desired a simple but proper API for time. I always wondered why so many date+time libraries complicate matters so much. I strongly agree with the principles you chose

Being part of util-linux makes sense. However, it would be so much nicer if I didn't have to look up those two lines.

Wow. Given all the hype around docker, I'm really surprised nsenter type functionality isn't part of the core. Glad I'm using FreeBSD where running a shell in your jail is just 'jexec my_jail bash'. Compare that to

Well I'm arguing that determinism implies there may be a conscious you , but there can't be a you that has choice. Anyway, I think I see what you are getting at and can accept that as a philosophical position even though I don&

I think I'm in camp #2, and I lost you at 'but if you were a different you, and made a different decision..'. If your thoughts and actions are fated, how can you be a different you? Or try harder? Isn't all that fated? F

Agree. There is already completion going on from the shell and it's very distracting. The demo should use a dead simple shell.

You can just use FreeNAS - it uses ZFS underneath and provides a nice web admin interface. Of course you can also ssh in and run commands on the shell if you want.

For the server side, why not just use SCTP which not only has multi-homing, but also reliable datagram messaging? Are there issues using it intra-datacenter?

It's not easy to wrap tarsnap. If you own one tarsnap account, how do you split that up into multiple accounts? You'd end up writing code for account management and authorization (not written by colin). Also, you can't provid

Also, easier restore and snapshot deletion. Consider how you would restore using incremental ZFS snapshots. You'd have to pull all the snaphots, unpack the base snapshot and then sequentially unpack each incremental snapshot. In tarsna

The 'zfs send' command will send an incremental snapshot if you specify '-i snap1 snap2'. To restore, of course, you'll have to have snap1, and then you can apply the increment.

Your benchmarks don't mean much because you're giving different data to different packers. cPickle gets a list of objects but json gets a list of dictionaries? The cost of converting the objects into the dictionaries is convenient

JavaScript numbers are just floats and susceptible to precision loss as well as overflow to Infinity, aren't they? In fact, if incremented repeatedly, 64-bit floats lose precision before 64-bit ints overflow.
