Vertically, like Github's Pull Request changed files.

> The slashed '0' is easy to tell apart from 'O' at small sizes Funnily enough, viewing 27" at 140ppi from 1 meter, my brain mistook the slashed '0' for a 6 or 8 when looking at the headings.

It’s because you can only understand why things are structured the way they are, if you go on the journey from scratch yourself. It would probably be easier if there was a video or scrubber/slider to see how the code evolved. So many t

The terminal is such a relic. The only thing going for it is that it's always fast. Every single time I use it I would prefer GUI output, and a proper scripting language like Python or JS. For output I want datagrids with search, sort,

We are definitely going to look back on this era and wonder why we stuck to archaic tech for so long. It's clear that the database needs to be more integrated in our applications. SQL is not a good fit for most apps. The reporting/

Ideally we should write and organize our code such that it is easy to visualize. We shouldn’t write code and then visualize it. And we also shouldn’t think we have to abandon text-based editors when we want to do such. People forget that hi

Something that gives me hope is that I haven't seen anyone prioritize debuggability in a modern programming language or even a framework. Vale is maybe the first getting close: https://verdagon.dev/blog/perfect-rep

This is the central problem with all programming today. You can think of everything as configuration. Parameters of a function are just configuration for that function. What we need is traceability of every value in a system, not just confi

OO is the king of the contrived example const dog = new Dog dog.woof() Now you see how simple OO is, let's build banking software.

I guess I mean that it's not the first thing people reach for unless they know about it. They have some data and want to write a function to do something. But yeh its probably a too broad statement not worth debating on definitions.

There is definitely an art to it at some point, but I see a lack of tools to be a big problem. We are in the stone-age of programming at the moment. I think the solution is visualization. I want to click on any variable, and see its full da

I've actually started preferring the `action(subject, object)` form of programming which OO in C entails, rather than `subject.action(object)`. The latter is certainly easier for discovery via auto-complete (with most current tooling).

Good idea. As an extension, I would love a directory of all communities online. Something Yahoo-esque. I often have trouble finding the right place to ask a question or discuss a topic.

I'm moving all my scripting to TypeScript using Bun (JS runtime written in Zig). For scripting its a way better choice. `bun:ffi` also makes it trivial to run C or Zig code when you need to.

We need an equivalent Python Mojo for TypeScript. This seems like the most obvious thing yet to be built. I wonder how hard it would be to take an existing systems language and add TS syntax to it. Seeing as they are all built on LLVM. Or m

I had the idea recently to unify all the rendering code for my cli apps and thought this might be a good approach - I also wanted to allow cli app output to be rendered in the browser. It wasn't. I guess it might be good for dynamic ap

I was parsing paths into an array of dirs recently. The `/` root dir is quirky. You can’t just do `dirPath.split(‘/‘)`. You have to handle it as a special case. Would be easier if it had a special name. Like `$/dir1/dir2
