I feel like we are still waiting for someone to create a nice multi-paradigm database blending everything we’ve learned in the past 50 years, that can also run in the browser. I see all state as a stream of events building a graph, then we

I think SQL on the frontend is a big opportunity. It’s a powerful declarative language that matches nicely to React. Every component’s data requirements are essentially an SQL query, and a lot of client-state could probably be represented i

Flow + OCaml is a great example of this approach failing IMHO. I ran into tons of issues that were difficult to debug myself, and things like the regex format and config file conventions being different were also problematic. Compile times

We are collectively off in the wilderness at the moment. Apollo GraphQL is the same company that brought us Meteor by the way. If you take a look at what you need to write to get good optimistic UI updates it is crazy compared to what Meteo

This is the same as a removed member still having their browser cache containing team data. The advantage of this design is you get an app that is extremely responsive and offline capable. Then you just need a reliable way to sync changes.

But what about optimistic UI updates or offline support in the client. The frontend has no notion of the relationships between the entities, which means you will be making a lot more queries than you need to, or just ignoring optimistic upd

This doesn't help with optimistic UI updates though. The article is less about remotely executing SQL, but more about having a relational data model as a cache in the frontend. However, when sending the query through to the backend on

Looks cool - wonder why its not more popular. I think the read/write-through cache to a backend database is the missing piece...at least as far as I can see.

Yeh, subtrees can get hairy. I think there is a need for a cli wrapper tool (with nice visualization) to hand-hold through the process. Too much can go wrong otherwise.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/16134975/how-can-i-reduc... I think it's just inefficiently implemented. `git subtree` is just a shell script using other git commands. Take a look at the `--rejoin` flag.

Yep, subtrees are the answer. I wrote [this piece]( https://vjpr.medium.com/the-multi-monorepo-209041932fbf ) yesterday about using a monorepo of monorepos using git subtree over git submodules, which should cover almost all

The downside of submodules is you lose the ability to easily branch across all packages/repos and then just commit. You could branch the other project but then you have to coordinate this yourself. There is a project called Meta that c
