Stack ranking at Microsoft has a min populaton size (x) - you generally walk up the org chart until the number of employees >= x, and then apply stack ranking to that group.

This would be received very poorly by most of the sub-continent, and apart from being just controversial would be impossible to actually enforce. Those familiar with the political tensions in the South (especially Tamil Nadu) between Dravid

loceng, we try to avoid that - a simple equalizer will create an amplification of frequency bands without gain control, so you get a sound of higher amplitude/magnitude, which can have a negative impact as you pointed out. We use some

Alex (my co-founder) had this exact problem except in both ears, and he uses our app every day for the same reason - hearing aids just don't play well with earbuds or headphones. Thanks for signing up whbk, it's always great to ge

keiferski, SoundFocus doesn't do this today. But stay tuned, we are working to help people who have single ear hearing loss as well. I'm actually interested in learning more about your particular use case, I'll drop you a lin

Co-founder here - thanks for the great feedback Osmium. You're quite right in that the number of people who have unilateral hearing loss is pretty high (it's close to 40% from some recent studies). We're working on developing

Co-founder here - thanks for the well wishes, 6thSigma. We've seen people significantly improve their quality of life once they find a solution for hearing loss, but most people are reluctant to go out and find one, because they'r

It's kind of silly to say that - Apple under Jobs did make several mistakes, over the history of the company. It's just that your recent image of Jobs is someone who was consistently successful, but even there Ping is a good counter example

People probably feel that it is hypocritical to sue one company for copying your designs, and then turn around and copy designs off someone else, especially when they happen right a few months apart. Personally, my moral compass immediately

Samsung has invested a ton of money in developing the Galaxy brand through billboards, TV ads and so on. While you can definitely argue that many of their UI elements bear a striking resemblance to Apple's, they take every opportunity to re

Every once in a while, a publication will run something like this about major companies [1][2]. It seems to be standard practice among large corporations. As a company, if you are allowed to save large amounts of money by using existing loo

Interesting that there is a link back to the HN thread from the post - I've seen it happen a lot on personal blogs, but this is the first time I've seen it done by a company.

I've found that Dota2 has a very good implementation for multi-monitor behavior. When you're in a menu or waiting to find a game in queue, you can move your mouse off to the second monitor, and click on something and the game will minimize.

Hiding code is actually quite useful - its not meant to obscure code that doesn't belong, as you imply. Say for instance, I'm working on two methods that are expansive, but i'm trying to debug a small part of those methods. To make watching

No, I don't think the article is an attack on just one quote (and quite didn't say that). I agree with you about almost all your points - its just that in your original post, you basically said 'leave Jobs out of this', and I'm merely point
