As internet shifts to mobile phones & apps become the dominant way to use the internet, it will automatically diminish the importance of Google Search, & the market will (is already) pricing this in. I think Peter Thiel alluded to t

Fair point. When I say 90 days, I think if things are bad, it's typically easy to spot where the degenerate behaviors are starting, and correcting them. In 90 days, the leading indicators need to start looking good. It takes time for t

FWIW I was let go many years ago. When I was interviewing for the next job, the hiring manager asked what happened at the last job. Before I could share the story, he interrupted me & said."its ok. sometimes life throws curveballs

I'm latching, probably unfairly, to the comment about "market saturation". I give OP +1 for conviction, and -1 for lack of validation.

Right on. Somebody should've told Mark about the saturated social media market, or Larry about the saturated search market. There are so many communication tools, surely its a solved problem right. Ask a knowledge worker today about th

Has anyone tried to determine if the prevalence of H1B visas results in a downward pressure on salaries in the tech sector? In theory, it shouldn't because H1B visas are supposed to be filled when you can't find a citizen or a res

I think acceptance by the community is essential for their business. If ones decides to shame Airbnb hosts in their buildings, it will present significant risk to Airbnb's business.

re: So... why don't those spaces "belong" in the rental market too? That's a good discussion to have I think. But we are talking about Airbnb here. re: Ultimately, if market forces make it more profitable for rooms to be

Anecdotal evidence here. The last person renting the apartment I rent in NYC didn't live in the apartment. She was renting it as two units on AirBnB (and lived in different building). She was kicked out when the landlord discovered it,

I think they can build a lot of ways in which the "community" angle adds value to a guest. For example, they could encourage hosts to provide a list of top 3 things to do / eat / see, and aggregate this for guests. Based

Non sequitur. The discussion here is about how AirBnB's unregulated supply of rental property is impacting long term rents in NYC. FWIW NYC has added 30,000 new hotel rooms since 2007. It would seem that AirBnB is adding nearly the sam

I think its important to compare the AirBnB stock with the available stock of units, not entire stock. I would posit that rent is driven by marginal availability instead of total size of unit stock.

This makes a ton of sense. Role and salary should be discussed up front, so necessary conditions are established. Follow up - what stops you, as a candidate, from discussing this upfront?
