I don't care for MS, but I do grudgingly respect .NET from everything I have seen. And while it is hip to use Apple and run RoR, Django, Erlang, or any other next big language and stack, .NET is huge in the corporate world where the stack i

I wasn't criticizing Apple. I think it is the opposite. Apple is great at consumer products, while MS fumbled recently with consumer products, but MS has had success with B2B.

Also, it doesn't have to be the CEO with the vision. The CEO can, in the scenario, find and back up someone else with the vision.

I think the OP is right, but you are misunderstanding. Jobs understands his business, but what products does Apple put out there for businesses? Microsoft has Exchange, Active Directory, .NET/C#/MVC, MSSql, plus many more products aimed at

An important piece to this that isn't mentioned is filing bug reports, good bug reports. If you track down where some fails, figure out why, and find the smallest, easiest set of steps to reproduce, you have helped the developers a lot. Eve

I think is the right idea. An IP address is a piece in the puzzle of evidence. By itself, it should not be enough to prove guilt, but it might be enough for a search warrant. I hope is that as time goes on, the legal system (and hopefully a

Actually, this isn't just if you don't setup DNS records for your domain name. If you configure some subdomains with name.com, then all other subdomains for that domain go to a parked page. For example, my wife's website is jesleephotos.com

This is disheartening to read because I have been using name.com for over year now and over, I had been happy. I did check one of my domains and found this issue, but since for most of my domains, I don't have DNS managed by the registrar,

Also note that all these numbers really depend on location. 80-100K out of college in Minnesota (where I am) would be insane. I know people with 15 years experience making 100-120k. Now if you are in the Bay area making 32K, that sounds wei

I went to Ikea with my wife shortly after seeing the Scott Pilgrim movie (yes this is an important detail). We were looking for something very specific, so I looked at the map and pointed out all the little shortcut doors that look like "Em

I made a Solarized dark theme for XCode 4. I used the Vim definition as a guide, though varied it a little while staying within the color palette. https://github.com/varikin/solarized/tree/master/xcode4-colo...

Growl and Sparkle are the defacto standards for notifications and program updates on Mac. They are very nice because I can control how I am notified through Growl settings (no notifications) and apps tell me there is a new update when launc

These libraries exist because iOS (IMHO) is too low level in places, such as HTTP requests. There is an interface you have to implement in order to make HTTP requests, and you have to handle all the data (bytes) that come in incrementally.

But, if you pay for the Mac Developer Program, you can download it from the website. So either $5 or $99/year. But you need to pay $99/year to submit apps to the app store—at least iOS app store, I assume the same for Mac App Store. So deve

Technically, Django doesn't run on GAE. All the options to get it running on GAE involve quite a bit of hacking of Django. So there really isn't any support to maintain.

I think I dislike about the HN design is the visited link color. If I find that it blends in with the background to the point that I scan right over it when looking for visited links. It needs just a bit more contrast.
