I generally agree, but that's no reason why we shouldn't push for a law banning use of private data like this now. It seems like a first step towards that culture shift we want. And even if enforcement of this new law is lacking,

100% agree. This is why I’m always a bit dubious of in-browser decryption. At any moment a little extra snippet of JS can be added to stealthily leak my secrets. There’s no great mechanism to ensure the JS I’m running is always the same JS

As far as I know, you can’t get an executable script like that to act like an app that’s launchable when double clicked from Finder or clicked the Dock. Even though it’s executable.

That's doing speech recognition on the YouTube video's audio and then embedding the result as subtitles? Is the idea that this is superior to YouTube's own automatic subtitles? Though if the youtube video actually has manuall

That gets me the subs in some usual complicated format? It's a bit of work to extract the actual text from that. To get youtube subs in .srt format this gave me some limited success: yt-dlp --convert-subs=srt --write-auto-sub --

This is because newer versions of macOS still present themselves as 10.15 (Catalina). A bunch of user agent parsers just assume macOS never goes beyond version 10 and to minimize breakage so they've just frozen the macOS version at &q

I love seeing more excellent tooling made with bash/shell scripts. For situations like this one, where all the underlying heavy lifting is done with other CLI utilities, shellscript is the perfect fit.

Sadly it seems that Brother's only 11x17 "Ledger Size" printers are inkjet... alas. But the MFC-J5855DW inkjet printer from Brother looks decent. Will look at Lexmark too! edit: Lexmark does look very nice, but their 11x17 p

Another vote for rclone. Let's you easily turn any cloud storage service into one with E2EE encryption. And with 'rclone mount' you can get a network file system easily with decent performance and good local caching.

I see that in the app privacy report, but it doesn’t ask for location permission. Not really sure what to think. Perhaps it’s just tracking/logging your IP’s geo location and that alone is enough to require disclosure?
