Leverage. You can borrow 80% for an investment property but no bank will lend you (not an individual anyway) money to buy ETFs. You might get a margin loan, which is much riskier than a mortgage and requires you to have X upfront to borrow

I just watched your talk at the CMU database talks. Just wanted to say I really appreciate reading/hearing about your approach! TB is a super interesting system, I hope I get to properly use it someday.

As someone who wrote scala and elixir for a few years and recently switched to a Go job I also dearly missed map and filter. However, people tend to loop unnecessarily often when it's so easy. Say you have a list of classes and want to

Getting internet early is often a curse since companies priorities build outs where they have no coverage at all. That being said, 3 MB/s should get you very high on the 'to upgrade ' list...

At least in Germany it's worse but generally fine, you can achieve <20ms ping for online gaming within or near Germany. Fiber is for sure better through but probably won't make a difference in day2day.

What's the difference between a stablecoin and cash app or paypal? Stablecoin is just a fancy term for fiat as tokens but any non-bank entity that holds fiat and gives you access to it.

It's hilarious, if you have an iphone, an apple watch and an ipad you need 3! different cables. You can't even get around 2 of them with wireless because the apple watch doesn't support qi charging, so you need 2 different pa

All the USB data specs are irrelevant for this legislation. All it says is: Use a USB-C connector and support the USB PD charging standard. In fact many cheaper android phones use USB2 since the port is purely for charging.

What I don't understand about this: What's the point of bringing on so many engineers with the expectation of firing many of them? It takes time to get productive and especially when you hire lots of engineers they will probably w

I think the reality is though that is is extremely difficult to find a job that would pay a comparable total comp in all cash. You choice isn't 200k cash, 200k rsu vs 400k cash since the 400k cash offer doesn't really exist. What

There are huge concerns over centralization. As it stands 2-3 entities (e.g. Lido, binance and Coinbase) over 50% of all validators. This is due to a mix of issues (no withdrawal making liquid staking very attractive, 32Eth limit leading to

It's also completely untrue. Staking is unprofitable if you cannot guarantee uptime of your node. In fact Ethereum includes slashing for inactivity, so not only do you lose out on rewards if you shut of your MacBook, you run the risk o

I think the IDE issue still exist in many projects due to the complexity of generic FP libraries + bad support for scala 3. The last scala project I worked on used scala3 + cats and it was very touch and go if we could continue using this s

Is this really true? My impression was that the 'go' keyword means a green thread is spun up for the function to run in and this wrapper returns immediately (hence the need for channels or waitgroups etc to get the results back).

The question is price. Air travel 'sucks' but has also become a lot more accessible, even long haul. If an airship takes 4 days and costs the same as business class on a regular plane I think many people will just business class.

But the crux is that those trades didn't occur on Coinbase, the assets hadn't even been listed yet. So it might very well be a case of a non-us citizen trading on a non-us exchange (or defi exchange). What can the SEC do in this c

If only Germany were smart enough to give people who study here a 2-3 year work visa after they finish their studies. As it is you still need to find an employer willing to sponsor you (which at least is easy if you earn a lot).
