Thanks! I didn't actually build it myself but a professor and other student were also involved. When I joined the project the decision was already made: the professor wanted to use APL and we were using an old CPU architecture book as

So you go through my profile and assume that you know my professional background? What makes you think that that's the only project where I've used APL? Such poor quality comment.

My favorite language used to interpret my most hated language (used both professionally). There are several things I disagree with regarding Haskell but it's understandable given that this is OP's first time using the language (li

No, algebraic effects are a generalization that support more cases than LISP's condition system since continuations are multi-shot. The closest thing is `call/cc` from Scheme. Sometimes making these parallelism hurts more than not

The fundamentals are the same, and `async` is as relevant as it was back then. The ecosystem is extremely stable in that regard.

I have to point out that their online videos are amazing to leaen how to quickly set up certain features like SSH. In less than 5 minutes I had VSCode on a Macbook Air connected to my desktop machine running Linux on a completely different

I'm not familiar with Bazel at all so this might be obvious, but does Bazel check that the files listed in the BUILD file are the "right ones" (ex. through a checksum), and if so, is this always enforced (that is, this behavi

I haven't had the time to play with Bluefin (I'll get to it eventually!) but I did try out effectful. In the later I've only used the `Fail` effect since most of the time I just want to bail out when some invariant is broken.

As someone who worked with Haskell and Rust in production this is a nightmare: - All functions end up returnig `Either/Result` - Stack traces are gone - Exceptions and panics can still creep so it's not even "safer" - Th

This is actually a very good comment. Haskell has had these features since early ~2000s and it was a major competitive advantage in the language space, but today I would argue that if you're using a modern language then they don't

It does not solve the problem. Would you rather have a function that takes a map and puts additional keys in it (ex. `timestamp`) or a function that takes a map and stores it in a new map alongside the additional keys? In any case, how woul
