I can't say I understand this argument. Say an American company X outsources to a foreign company Y. Y abuses the system and hires a bunch of H1B and pays them pennies to the dollar. X is still paying Y dollars and not pennies right? S

They are not low wages but are getting below market salaries. If that was what you're hinting at. I'm guessing most people working for IT consultancies and services companies are paid way below market wages. Sure, the company hiri

I'm not saying H1B is not abused, I'm saying not everybody on H1B is abusing the system or is getting paid below market wages.

Whenever someone brings up H1B, everybody goes to abuse issue, but a lot of us got here as students and we still have to use H1B to work. It is unfair to just lump everybody on an H1B as a low wage, unqualified person.

Maybe I'm too old for this, but I read the title as "Dropbox discontinues photo galleries" I still can't get used to the fact that drop means release.

$90 is the most expensive plan. Their basic plan start from $30 or $3 a month. I'll downgrade to a cheaper plan in the future, but $90 a year for something I use on a daily basis does not seem excessive to me. That is about ¢25 a day.

I can talk about myself and the reason I think Gmail is not working for me. I'm less worried about the security part of the email and more about the tracking aspect. I don't need encrypted emails, however I don't want someo

I very recently switched to fastmail and couldn't be happier. For $90 a year, I don't have to deal with people snooping and tracking me around for ads. I know google is trying to give me value with all their facial recognition and

I am happy about this acquisition at least for deliveries. I've used Instacart extensively and they don't seem honest at all. Prices/fees are not transparent, I don't know who I'm tipping and how much of the tip the

If you have a raspberry pi lying around (probably other *nix machines would work too), you can setup https://pi-hole.net I run it at home and it blocks the ads on my entire network. Work exactly like your method.

There are many ways to track you, ad-blocking prevents just a tiny little thing. There are things like pixel tracking that is not very easy to detect/block.

If we're giving anecdotal evidence, I have about 4 Dell notebooks from 2011 to 2016, all of them are either broken or cannot function normally. So should i go ahead and generalize that all the machines in this period are bad? I said th

Eh! I meant it needs tinkering once in a while. It is probably more like 99%. Windows and Linux on the other hand require way more work. I just want my dad to browse the internet and not mess with registry or device drivers.

This is purely personal, but I don't buy laptop solely for its form-factor. What sells the MBP to me is the operating system and frankly that is what keeps me from buying a windows laptop too. In the end I'm ok with paying a premi

When ordinary people take a job and fail, even when the job itself is impossible, they don't get rewarded. CEOs shouldn't be treated differently is my point. If it was impossible and the company couldn't be salvaged, there wa

Or, it could just be your confirmation bias. I'm not saying women aren't treated harshly, but plenty of male CEOs also get flak (uber, Adobe etc). IMHO, women are treated unfairly at lower levels of work, it is hard to sympathize

I like how you see positive in this move, but all I can think of is this. Google will enable ads from google and block everything else. This is their way of killing the competition. I think it is unfair and risky. I don't want google o

The article is talking about a different thing. If the trip costs me $10, the driver keeps ~$7 and Uber gets $3. If the driver thinks he needs $9 for this to be viable, then Uber should either take $1 or charge the customer $12 and pay the
