I don't think such an attitude is warranted. While I'm skeptical about the potential of LLMs as AGI (whatever that means), being able to summarize subjects and even come up with test questions can be very valuable for learning. I

Riemann died young, too. I only really know him for the Riemann sum formulation of integrals (I have yet to learn complex analysis), but I wouldn't be surprised if he has some popular reach through the Riemann hypothesis.

Euler went blind in one eye, and remarked "now I will have fewer distractions". He eventually became almost blind entirely, but with the aid of scribes, his productivity actually increased. It's remarkable how Euler didn'

Is the backtrace performed by the OS and that's why it still works? And the debug info needs to still be provided, just not an unwinding mechanism?

Naively, what is the difference between panics and exceptions? Is it the philosophy on when/how to use them?

I was just making it clear that the OS policy pervades. That is, the developers of CPython or another execution context need to care about it, and so it informs some of the implementation details that may leak into programs. We agree that P

Python presents an abstraction, but underneath, it's bound by the address space just as C is.

The C memory model is what imposes pointer provenance and all that jazz on C programs. The OS provides an abstraction over physical memory, and programming languages abstract over individual address spaces.

I wouldn't call that the C memory model, as it's imposed by the OS on all programs.

A very simplified and possibly wrong answer: memory in C is a bunch of arrays of bytes that have lots of rules on when and how you can use a particular array given the state of all relevant arrays.

I think there is a strong culture in the Rust community to use `unsafe` carefully, somehow fostered by the overt advertisement, features, and/or design philosophy of Rust. The infamous actix-web debacle suggests that Rust users tend to

Considering Python's library ecosystem and the general expanse of Python code, some might say it is the right tool. It's far from ideal, though. A slew of mediocre decisions just begets more, I suppose.

Considering how we all seem to be the product of millions of years of hit-or-miss natural selection, it feels almost natural that our advancements have also had a great deal of luck/improbability.

For a new OS, would it be good to circumvent this with a rudimentary runtime type system managed by the kernel? It would probably cost a bit of memory and performance overhead on syscalls, and eat up the syscall space. It could be reflected

There isn't a binary "memory safety" choice for a given language, but C is way off on the wrong end of realistically promoting the writing of memory safe code.
