I'd be surprised if you had actually read the blog post I wrote (pkh.me) :) > most of the libavcodec and libavformat work has been done in libav Well, I believe this is a bit more complex. While it might be true for API changes and

OK so basically we have 26 sounds ( http://typedrummer.com/audio/[a-z].mp3 ), an accel marker '(' (only 1 scale?), and a decelerator ')' (only 1 scale?). Anything else? And since everyone feels like s

Can you show an example of an animation with more than 256 colors? As you said, the hack to get more than 256 colors is to redefine a sub rectangle with a new palette. But that's also the mechanism used to make animations. Are you ab

Yeah, but the article is already quite long so I omit the "details" on that... Basically, it's just to specify a complex filtergraph: in the case of -vf you're just passing one video stream which gets filtered by success

ImageMagick is very popular, but apparently the algorithms in pngquant gives excellent results. Don't forget to include it if you do comparisons with the different solutions. Also keep in mind that the compression efficiency and qualit

The median cut quantization with a few tweaks (using the the variance typically - see the post for more) actually gives very good results. According to your post, it seems it will not provide much better results with Octree, if any. That ca

Yes, that's what I presented. Sometimes though you need a function because you have a function pointer tab for each feature (foo, bar, baz), that's why I wrapped them to show the mechanism of inlining.

It's mentioned quickly, look for "func_lut" in the post. These functions can not be inlined if the LUT must be declared dynamically, and it's a problem when they have different parameters typically.

These solutions are what is presented at the beginning of the article, basically. They suffer from a maintenance and readability issue (most editors will disable syntax in the macro scope, you have to mess with the '\', ...). In t

I was simply not aware of it as I never really looked deeply at the features of anything posterior to C99 (I only vaguely remember the thread features that look appealing). That's interesting, I might end up mentioning it in the conclu

Haters gonna hate. You can put that filtergraph in a file with line returns or whatever clarity you fancy. Note that FFmpeg doesn't require wine to work on Linux (or any other system), and it also handles here the audio, the encode, an

Thanks for the frame ranges. So... ffmpeg -i zelda.mp4 -vf "perspective=60:90:589:147:50:415:582:418:enable='not(between(n,0,149)+between(n,1488,2063))'" -c:a copy -c:v libx264 zelda.mkv

Well... you can do that with only ffmpeg. ffmpeg -i zelda_720p.mp4 -vf perspective=60:90:589:147:50:415:582:418 output.mp4 Edit: BTW on your picture it's not (50,145) but (50,415) for the bottom left corner. Edit: if quvi supports stil

Forking is not that much a problem when it's limited to a program. Typically in the case of MPlayer, you had mplayer2, and nowadays mpv, and this is fine really. It's just a program that could live with the others without much tro

Most of the old options have been mapped to the new interface (see opt_old2new() for instance). So most of the old commands are still compatible. Libav also has dropped ffmpeg forked copy since a long while, so FFmpeg is actually more retro
