iPhones since the iPhone X have the same repair requirement, however the screen and FaceID are separate so you can continue to use the original. There's nothing special about the touch panels, the FaceID component is a TPM of sorts.

I'd say it's closer to auto vs choosing ISO/shutter speed/f-stop. Web tooling for git is very shallow; I wouldn't want to be without `git add/commit -p` for example.

iPhones have incredible longevity and Apple is still supporting the 5s (2013, gets security patches) and 6s (2014, receiving iOS 15). I also have a 2008 MacBook and it's a treat considering its age.

The iPhone 5s came out in September 2013 (8 years ago) and receives security patches; latest being iOS 12.5.4 in June. The iPhone 6s (Sept 2015) will be getting iOS 15, not just security patches.
