Noting the difference in humility between someone that has made the cut to participate in the IMO (6 people per country) and the multitude of retrospect prophets that trivialize the DeepMind achievement.

not to be pedantic, but Deep Blue beat Kasparov in 1997.

> Most of DeepMind’s research is a cost-centre for the company. The effect of establishing oneself as the thought leader in a field is enormous. For example, IBM's stock went up 15% the month after they beat Kasparov.

From the article: "Our solutions were scored according to the IMO’s point-awarding rules by prominent mathematicians Prof Sir Timothy Gowers, an IMO gold medalist and Fields Medal winner, and Dr Joseph Myers, a two-time IMO gold medali

They do have 5" and 31.5" reflective displays though, they call them Reflective IGZO Displays.

Interesting summarization. For throughput/watt, nothing beats A100 40GB PCIe cards. In terms of throughput/$, 4090 cards are >8X better than the best H100.

You're somehow not knowledgeable and opinionated about it

Google has done this. They did offer a paid version that didn't have ads, but few actually used it.

Not odd at all! The bits-per-second rate that spectrum was getting from a tape was 1200 bps.

Open sourcing would only guard against human programmers. The fact of the matter is, we don't _really_ know why LLMs work.

Joins are great for OLTP workloads but are horrible for all but the simplest graph algorithms. A datalog-based system makes for a nice story, but it would not survive benchmarking. Pick a classic algorithm, say triangle counting, implement

Coroutines. What a lovely concept! It's a joy to watch all the CppCon videos about C++ coroutines, primarily by Microsoft folks. "Negative-cost abstraction" is such a nice hook phrase. Friends at Meta mentioned to me a couple

Let me save folks some time and summarize the article: something happened 4bn years ago, it possibly created RNA, it might have created DNA after or concurrently (we don't know) and we definitely have no clue about how genetic code was

Longer buffers allow for jitter in processing further upstream. If you get a buffer every 0.6ms, you need to be able to process it always within 0.6ms.

That's what a 16-sample buffer would get you. In reality, there are many devices on the market that can get close to 2.5ms. For example, Line 6 claims 2.8 ms end-to-end, BOSS claims 2.3 ms [2], the NUX B8 is at 2.5ms [3]. [1] https:&#

128-sample buffers are already too large. To compare, the nRF24 has a max buffer of 32 bytes. However, even in your 128 samples, 16bit/48kHz example, latency is a bit better. It will take 1000/48000 * 128 ms to collect the 128 sam

Great article! Here's a perspective from a guitarist's viewpoint. Most wireless guitar systems boast latencies below 3ms, with the better ones being closer to 1ms. Latency is important here because even small delays can be felt by
