It's great for my side projects. I take the train a lot so that's where I use it the most. I use a normal X11 DE and all my normal apps just work, no futzing with "mobile" crap.

Meh. You're right when you're dealing with large groups of people which is exactly what I said in my original comment. If you understand these issues passwords on their own are fine. 2FA has some nasty edge cases that make it very

IMO the primary reason they're pushing 2FA is for the people who are careless enough to eg log into their personal email on their work computer. I wish there was an exam you could take that would get you a "computing license"

IMO a lot of this is just heavy competition because of elite over production because life is becoming unlivable for the working class. No amount of rearranging curricula will fix this.

>This is technically incorrect. You don't need the App Store to run arbitrary code on your iPad/iPhone - you only need a Mac and XCode. Which is either better or worse, depending on your POV. This doesn't work practically

I wouldn't be surprised if some games were played so that we're exporting all the food while people here starve similar to the Holodomor in Ukraine.

The school provided lunches that I heard about from someone who graduated recently sounded pretty marginal. I think people in this thread might be overestimating what's being lost.

Did the Alpine mail reader stop working with Gmail? I switched to self hosting after Google kicked me out of my account with a broken password reset so I haven't had to switch to a different mail reader.

Yeah you can't open many tabs for large pages at once. I'll happily trade doing that for the computing freedom and git, xmpp etc actually working. iOS automatically kills your tabs anyway so it's not like you're actually

No. I've tried coding on these machines. All your tools must run in an interpreter so they're ridiculously slow and the thing gets uncomfortably hot and you can't look at anything else or the app will get closed. It's

This is extremely basic stuff that I would expect any half decent computer to be able to do. I'd be more surprised if it were impossible but I guess this is Apple we're talking about.

Any functional nation will have those two groups. There will at least be the people who are citizens and people who are not.

The real crime is the damage to the next generation's minds. Their expectation that all meaningful software must have an organization and online infrastructure behind it and the general infantilization of computer users is honestly kin

What? I run desktop Linux on a Pinephone which is (unfortunately) iPhone shaped. The shape of the actual computer inside these devices is often really just a small board ~2/3 the size/shape of your credit card anyway.

Exactly. It's all "kind of okay" at best. OSX used to have the best XMPP and IRC clients and some were ported to iOS; it's not a lack of effort on the part of the developers it's a critical problem with the platform

Not just the developer account, the developers are required to maintain app specific infrastructure to do things like push notifications. That's why FOSS apps rarely have them. All of this on top of the the hardware cost and having s

Hoarding assets is motivated by inflation much like hoarding currency is motivated by deflation. Both are bad because they prevent people from socializing.

No. The user experience on iOS when you want to use any kind of FOSS (xmpp and irc clients, compilers, git without some closed wrapper etc) is shit. You're often stuck without notifications and you might even have to use iSH which is

I'm not convinced working mothers are all that happier tbh, and by having them work the market equilibria shift towards requiring them to work. It's more like gain in individual freedom, loss for everyone.

Localhost shouldn't look like production. You should have a remote QA environment for testing deployments etc that looks as close to production as possible. Ideally other people should depend on it for testing their software so you hav
