The favorite phrase of the president of Ringling College of Art and Design is, "the myth of the starving artist." He says this with a straight face as students graduate with 150,000 in debt and less than a 10% chance of getting a

I learned this years ago and forgot everything. I'm curious - does anyone actually use linear algebra in their day to day, and if so, what's your job title?

Conversely, I'm 30 and lost all enthusiasm for software after working for the big three. I suggest going to a smaller place where you'll have a bigger impact and, hopefully, good coworkers.

Agreed. I've only seen proper user separation happen when legal gets involved. Usually it's an all-access free-for-all, and after all, why shouldn't it be? It's a lot easier to pull data and logs from adjacent services y

Same happened to me when I switched insurance. Caused me to break down and miss three months of work. They denied half of the disability claim.

The Linux subsystem for windows makes my workflow nearly identical, and is absolutely better than something like putty.

Are there any studies on self destructive behavior that have a useful conclusion? All addicts I know are aware of the damage they do, yet I haven't seen studies about this kind of behavior.

To reiterate what is being said already, this is from flawed LinkedIn results. I've only seen Amazon engineers scoff at the news.

Twelve managers in three years. Quality of life changes dramatically depending on who you get. Left after being put on a PIP - stack ranking in action. Not worth trying to fight it with that particular manager.

I do this, it's useful. It helps during meetings as well. I figured on what's being said and can retain the key ideas long enough to jot down afterwards.

Up until about five years ago, I've only ever wanted to create and share video games. After a couple years doing it independently and getting my first professional game job, gamer gate happened. It's absolutely terrifying to see t

That's the meme, and I used to think that it could be true. I'd worked at some small and large game studios, and now I'm at one of the big three software companies. Things are much, much more hacked together here than in any

I'm seeing associate level devops positions being completely replaced by ML. I was deeply skeptical - and still am - but I can't argue with the results. I'm a little worried of dev teams relying on hardware they don't un

This line of thinking doesn't make sense. The zero-sympathy-no-exceptions attitude comes from lacking context of the problem, so hopefully I can help. > You aren't entitled... While the person you describe probably exists, it&#
