The difference is that the former is pointless frivolity, and the latter is, in this case, defending against a literal invasion.

"Bitcoin is about freedom", you say as a response to Bitcoin being used to fund an invasion? How do you not see the absurdity of this claim?

Yes, obviously. I don't like him and his politics much at all, but it is very clear that all you said is the case.

I really do not want to use a file system that has problems at edge cases. A file system needs to be incredibly stable.

That hasn't been the case for most of the decade. I already told you what does: Completely custom-built hardware that can do nothing but bitcoin mining, such as Antminers. For instance, here is a shipping container that burns 1 megawat

No, nobody mines bitcoin on GPUs. Surely you would know that if you're here trying to make argument about it?

It stands in for a gambling token, that is all. Speculators like to gamble using it. That is bringing actual value to society. We can get rid of it and it will be a net positive.

Absolute bullshit. Bitcoin does not even use processors for mining, it uses massively specialised hardware that is absolutely useless for anything else. No advances in bitcoin mining will translate to gain in anything else. It also massivel

Literally nobody buys goods with bitcoin. Any services you buy tend to exchange to real money as soon as they get the payment.

The good thing about Bitcoin is that we can just ban it, since nobody actually uses it for anything important. It could be turned off tomorrow and nothing of value would be lost.

If there is a "golden age of tech", it is right here, right now. I would never in a million years go back to the tech I've used in the past. This kind of empty nostalgia is the epitome of intellectual laziness.

The "total market cap" is a completely fictional number that represents nothing real whatsoever. It makes no sense to compare anything to this number.

No, that is obviously not the only kind of value you can have. That is one. I am saying bitcoin has none of them. And, again, mathematically, bitcoin trading is negative sum. This has nothing to do with what the price is. It can go up, do

Everything? The default state after checking out a git project with submodules is for them to be in the wrong state! Keeping the state of submodules and the main repo in sync is a complete shambles. Try mercurial to see how to do it correct

I have plenty of views. But you declared right from the start that you have chosen to blind yourself from the truth, and I know exactly how pointless it is to try to argue with someone in that position, so I simply will not.

I can't find it mentioned anywhere, but does jj support submodules? And does it make them actually work, unlike the broken mess git has? This is the biggest thing keeping me using mercurial, the fact that it has subrepos that work.

Why? People are doing it all the time, and you are rejecting them outright. Why should I bother to do the same when the last hundred times, you would not listen?

None of it is unfounded or manufactured. If you think it is, you are blinding yourself to some pretty obvious truth that you do not want to believe in.

There is no safe way to wind down mining. As mining becomes unprofitable, mining equipment will be shut down. But it will still exist, and it will be in the hands of people desperate for cash. This means that the price of 51% attack will dr
