I agree on iCloud, which behaves in a very erratic and intransparent way. Don’t rely on it. I use Nextcloud instead and it works much better. One software that syncs extremely well with iCloud is Obsidian, for reasons unknown (to me).

FUD. brew has nothing to do with Time Machine corruptions.

I had to identify by ID iirc because I wanted a .eu domain which is restricted to EU citizens. But I had to give the ID upfront.

I am happy with OVH. Only bit that’s missing is IPv6 for dynamic IPs.

I am using both Nextcloud and iCloud, and Nextcloud has been syncing much faster every time it mattered (i.e. when sharing files with the family).

But they haven’t managed to fix a rather basic feature in their iOS client in nearly 6 years now: < https://github.com/zulip/zulip-mobile/issues/438 >

Same here, mailbox.org with custom .eu domain. Very reliable.

I like that, any pointers for a Linux-based fetchmail/getmail setup?

That’s not correct, the CSSF classifies it as a bank, see https://searchentities.apps.cssf.lu/search-entities/search?&...

LU is not shadier than other places, probably even less. But Paypal is shadier than other banks (like, a lot shadier).

Nitpick, CSSF is the LU banking watchdog, and Paypal is a LU bank.

Teams works fine in Edge on a Mac. It’s the only reason I installed Edge.

This is a very naïve position on the matter. This is not about lifestyle choices but about coordinated harassment. Free speech stops the latest when you endanger other lives.

Secure email is snake oil; no amount of cruft can make it both reasonable secure and useful (as in federated). Other protocols better fill that space because they were designed for security needs.

Secure email is snake oil, and Proton is the one company that tries the hardest to sell it. So I agree with your general sentiment here. Your statements may not all be convincing arguments, but Proton they say which exact part(s) they take

I like the product, I understand the subscription, but I don’t get it when someone tries to sell « secure email » (looking especially at you, Protonmail). Email in itself is never going to be universally secure, that cause is lost to the si

I agree, iOS market share is too large to ignore. In that space, Jami seems to be the better option at this point in time.

Why would that change the competition? I don't think that at the technical underpinnings have been a problem to rollout one or the other. Honestly curious.

There is, actually - Using Emacs with org-mode and org-roam does roughly the same thing. But of course it’s more of a nerds thing, yours is more accessible to the broader public.

Each project can have more or less the same metrics, but different priorities. In a backup tool for example, integrity > restore speed > backup speed (unless the backup speed is so slow that you cannot backup). In a project that can a
