Yes there is. In practice, many jobs have considerable fixed overheads to both employer and employee to you can't be hired for say under 10 hours a week. For instance, when I had a nanny, absent OT laws, optimal hours for both parties

Are there any good studies on OT law trade-offs? Since at steady state the result is capping employee hours at 40, this type of law seems good for workers that want to maintain such a cap and bad for those that want to earn more.

Healthcare is just another cost in your life and you should view the benefit as part of your TC. It's only slightly distorted here in that companies can use pretax money but it isn't like it's a small expense to companies eit

Doing the math from the article, they'll be at an average of $120k in wages for an average of around 43 hours a week. If you are doing below that as a dev, probably worth first changing companies.

What does "control" mean? We have wildly disparite income in society - I don't place blame on people that say can't program computers for not knowing how.

I was trying to interpret what that means. I'm guessing they aren't factoring current conditions above 50% and instead rely on average conditions. I'd be surprised if this is actually worse than what the EPA views as averag

That's not what the paper is about at all; it specifically notes that white students leave at higher rates than Asian ones come in. That is total enrollment in the schools are decreasing.

Good call on power draw, but it seems dwarfed by capital cost. Assuming 3 year life (this tech gets outdated..), 300W constant consumption costs under $1k at $0.3/kwh. You need to be an order of magnitude higher in power usage before

Your citation is for 1k A100s, not 3.5k V100s. I think it's actually ~51 days on 3.5k V100s. Just to compare the GPUs, TF32 Tensor processing went from ~125 TFlops to ~990. It then looks like they also dropped the precision to FP8, w
