Tangentially related: every now and then I do some graphic design, and I've seen this "okay I'll just throw down a quick mockup → the client likes it so it basically becomes the final version" progression so many times.

Haven't read the paper, but isn't the causality the other way around? As in, troubled companies call on bullish analysts to try to keep up good appearances, but then underperform anyway because of their problems?

Looks nice for a short example, but later you'd also need some stuff like: let button = new Button("Click me"); window.attach(button, {position: 'center'}); To me, imperative widget creation gets tediou

Just a quick handwavy idea: from falsity you can derive anything, so maybe in this context Falsum would be something that could be used to "prove" the validity of any transaction you want? That said, I'm not an ETH enthusiast

That's okay, but that's not what DSL means as far as I'm aware. Which is why you got the comments about F# being general purpose.

You're right, method (OOP) notation lets you compose/pipeline functions. Pipes enable the same thing. So does F#'s pipeline (|>) operator, Haskell's composition (.) operator, Clojure's threading macro, concatenat

Could you expand on the difference? I heard those two terms used interchangeably. edit: saw union/intersection types mentioned in another comment - I guess that's what you were referring to?

Not GP, but I'd definitely call that a positive! That's one of my issues with single-inheritance OOP too... There are many hierarchies you might want depending on the aspects you're interested in. "A glass of juice is ce

I don't think that's fair towards GP – they only provided a data point using a language that is competing with Rust in some areas. (Unless I misread your comment, and "RustEvStrFo" doesn't have the same negative co

That's what I can't understand... For example, I can easily write a program that produces some digits one by one, indefinitely (excluding mechanical failures etc). I won't ever see the whole sequence – as it never ends – but

Could someone better versed in math explain why this is important/useful? I skimmed the article, and while I find Ford circles and the trees/tables presented intriguing, I don't really know what to do with the information pre

I agree! Anecdotally, I prefer `x >>= y` over `x .then y`, and `f <$> xs` over `map f xs` because the symbols "read quieter" to my mind, which helps me maintain focus.

IIRC Eve was developed by a startup, and they stopped development because they couldn't find a business model to fund it, not because of problems with the language. (Hopefully the community will keep it alive, I enjoyed playing around

Why? Unless I'm misunderstanding, you seem to be saying that being a programmer implies having a desire to understand every program's internals. But I don't care how Photoshop stores the 30-layer document I'm editing, an

One example can be found in Oliver Sacks' "An Anthropologist on Mars", which has a chapter about a blind man named Virgil who regained his sight in adulthood and it took him a long time to make sense of visual stimuli.

The standard version [ fix :: (a -> b) -> b ] is weird too - I'd suggest reading up on that first, there's a lot of tutorials. You can use fix to write recursive functions, so I'm guessing mfix is analogous, it just h
