Without delving too far into the philosophy of math as concerns existence vs convention... e pops up quite often when taking limits on a surprising number of varied phenomena. It is much more than a mere convention, unless you subscribe t

Seems like a good dry run for redundancy/resiliency tests in the face of more catastrophic failures such as those that can result from solar storms.

A lot of art is about re-recognizing our shared humanity. Is it so hard to believe that so many others have "had enough" of GenAI corrupting the connection that art fosters between us? What makes you think your opinion is more val

Hence the distinction between computer science and software engineering . :)

And that happens because different people are different and vote differently. No one is obligated to conform to your stereotypes.

Absolutely. There's a gap between code which expresses/communicates its intentions and code which achieves the same goals while being much more streamlined and suited to the constructs of the language.

Your entire comment is based on that premise. If you gave folks the benefit of "not aligning with the majoritarian or stereotypical opinion" you wouldn't feel the way that you've expressed.

Do you disagree? I understand the scolding and you may consider it irrelevant to answer my question but I am curious about the intentions of those who push back in this way.

What purpose does it actually serve for you? Just filling a <microblogging social media> hole in your attentional complex? The alternative is to do literally anything else.

Yep initiatives like these have a nasty habit of being underfunded and deprioritized.

I did a master's in complexity science and a lot of it was basically "what if this graph of things is a computer? what does it compute?"

This experience is so far from being accessible to a typical resident of the US, what exactly are your motivations for framing it as " shrug there's no issue with urban planning"?

Prerequisites are heavily aligned with physics / applied math, particularly: thermodynamics, dynamical systems, network theory, and a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary study. All should be approached from a perspective rooted mostly

Exactly, in the case of crime there are so many more vicarious anecdotes. If people were only allowed to discuss crimes that they were personally victim to, we would not be under the impression that crime is worse than ever.

There is a vanishingly small percentage of people actually working on the design and training of LLMs vs all those who call themselves "AI engineers" who are just hitting APIs.

Computer scientists are always so concerned with optimality. IMO it is sufficient to know an optimum exists and a way to converge on the solution, then finding quasi-optimal solutions is more than good enough.
