Stallman is the public face of the FSF, by him being in the position that he is in, everything he says is representative of what the FSF stands for. It is precisely about whether he is a good PR person.

This really has nothing to do with whether you find those positions agreeable or not. You have to understand that the core argument here is that Stallman is unfit to lead an organization that is supposed to be welcoming to all kinds of peop

A redesign does not have to be ambitious. There are so many things that can be incrementally improved in HN you'll be busy without ever touching the core of the UI like Reddit did. The bar is literally on the floor. A reason those HN r

The README should explain everything pretty well, but basically this is fastmod (regex search-and-replace) with some non-regex extensions and implicit matching on whitespace. I've been using it instead of my editor's search-and-re

This just loaded fine for me in Firefox. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt for this one, after all this PR contains 10k commits and 120 comments, and then quite a lot of approvals.

Those tools were not popular at the time for sure. I remember that Python-Future only got traction sometime after Flask has been ported to Python 3.

The distinction between being a "real CardDAV server" and being a server that exposes CardDAV is undefined and irrelevant, possibly non-existent. There is a spec, and if you implement it, you have a server that implements that spe

It isn't. CalDAV is a separate team. The support is quite good. The deviations from the standard are documented.

CGI is not unique to PHP and is available for most interpreted languages. In Python I can wrap any WSGI app in CGIHandler from Python's stdlib and it just works.

Particular things have to be decided upfront. You can't just add an app framework as an afterthought to your code.

I said "easy parsing", not "easy implementation". "Computationally cheap" is probably a better term. Everything is trivial with a parser generator. This is besides the point.

I'm not sure if you're claiming that the OAuth integration into WebDAV is broken or OAuth itself (because remoteStorage's integration works fine, e.g.).

All I ever demanded from my calendaring protocol was to safely and quickly synchronize my calendars between the server and the client. CalDAV has utterly failed at this because it is a complex protocol, and I have no idea how this new prot

Meh, I have to agree that it isn't a good point. I guess I was merely trying to point out that both have its performance deficiencies. At least the ones of remoteStorage are avoidable, while you can't just avoid XML in WebDAV.
