Dear matrixages, I recommended this essay to you because I think you might be going through a dangerous manic episode. It might feel as a productivity and creativity boost, but it is an illusion. I think you should do a quick evaluation wit

That it isn’t the same translation they read as children and that was used in movies. It is not a particularly high-brow debate, as HP, unlike Dostoyevsky in en-world, is read by everyone. People usually concentrate on proper names. Rowling

Funny how translations of Dostoyevsky is a contentious topic in English-speaking world. In ru-speaking world, we bicker about Harry Potter and Lord of Rings translations :) There’s a particularly inflammatory translation of HP which causes

I understand the sentiment, but to be fair, CGI doesn’t give you an infinite scalability. AWS Labmda based solution is far less susceptible to something like HN hug-of-death.

Wow, thanks for Cyrillic, Armenian and Georgian, not many fonts have support for all three. Will definitely give it a shot. Iosevka doesn’t have Armenian and Georgian, for instance.

I’ve definitely enjoyed working out today’s puzzle. Thanks! However, I am not sure about the daily aspect. I doubt I’ll remember about the puzzle tomorrow, and in any case, I like to do puzzles in larger batches, like for one hour in the ev

Quick PSA: If you want to do a facecam-overlayed screen recording on a Mac, all you need is QuickTime. 1. QuickTime -> New Movie Recording 2. View -> Float on Top 3. Position face view where you want it to be. 4. Hit Cmd+Shift+5 to re

Well, how many languages have flags? There are thousands of languages, but hundreds of countries. Surely, some languages would be left without a flag? And this doesn’t affect just some "obscure" languages. For instance, what flag

Why using $ symbol to represent English is less correct than using the US flag? (Re: colors: see my suggestion to use these colorful icons to represent time zones)

Well, why not use currency symbols to represent language? Same amount of correctness. If you like flags because they are colorful and memorable icons, you can use them to represent time zones. Much more convenient than some obscure "UT

I didn’t like this article at all. Maybe I am missing something, but the thesis seems just too shallow, borderline pseudoscientific. The main argument is “fine-tuning”: the fact that global constants in the universe are in an optimal state

I’ve looked up minimal wages in Arkansas. It’s $11/h, which seems ridiculously high, but I’m not an American. I think that in a depressed town, it shouldn’t be hard to find someone for, say, $35 per 12-hour night shift, just to patrol
