Uh, these folks worked like 80 hour weeks. And had “unlimited vacation”, aka no vacation. 1 week severance is a huge slap in the face.

Safari used to use re2c to identify Unicode Top Level Domains in order to avoid cross-site-scripting attacks. The Unicode support has no parallel that I’m aware of.

Here is what worked for me: 1) Stop working after work hours. Read a book, meditate and hang out with friends or family instead. Passive consumption doesn’t help. 2) Get on a bike and ride ( hiking or other outdoor exercise worked as well)

I’ve seen this “separate the artist from the art” line of reasoning. I personally feel icky knowing that my money is going towards someone who has a pattern of bad action. Art is about culture and culture is about shared stories. The fact i

Most of the offenses given (exposing yourself to subordinates for example) are not in the category of things you’re talking about. Well meaning people are racist and say racist things and when they are called out, they apologize and try to

Cry me a river. All of the offenses she lists have one thing in common: they are fundamentally someone with power using that power to subjugate ( to varying degrees ) someone who they have power over. Learn to treat others with dignity and

Just please make sure to take breaks and recharge or you will burnout. Burnout is about imbalance, remember that this life is a marathon not a sprint.

I don’t know if I agree with crazygringo, but I do believe everything is political to the degree that bad politics can take it all away in a heartbeat. There is some plateau where I think is fine to let politics play out, the place where yo

The post you’re replying to is talking about pre-internet means of distributing information like magazines / newspapers and television which are 100% controlled by human decision makers.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you there: once you turn off std, you’re off the map. Building a syscall handler for example, or implementing VM or even a simple bootloader is non-trivial and has taken me like 10x the time it would in C. If

You must be a hell of a lot smarter than me: I’ve been hacking rust on the side and it’s taking me like 10x as long at least to do fairly simple things. It’s like the crushing burden of choice of C++ paired with the strictness of Haskell. A

I like Rust, but based on the difficulty I’ve had writing even the most basic of bare metal software in it, it will be like 10 or 15 years before the community and the tooling are ready to do kernel or device driver work in Rust. C may have

You have to do K comparisons unless you keep track of the ordering of the other K-1 indices every time you pick a new element. Keeping a heap makes this log(K), yielding a KNlog(K) instead of K^2N. The naive solution is probably better when

No, read the dang article. You leak information about the content of the plaintext because you're changing the length. The crib doesn't matter with secure constructions.

This isn't an either or. The reason your phone gets all day battery life is because the kernel was designed to run well on an i386. Let the app frameworks have cushy memory management but implement the OS in C.

I am all for advanced memory management in application frameworks. The OS however isn't something you're going to rewrite very often so work harder and squeeze out efficiency so that your apps get them.

"Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and the BSDs we have today are still built using the architecture developed when computing resources were limited even though it is no longer technically necessary." Nonsense! Why would you waste any res
