Specifically with code, you have to learn how to see it in a more abstract way. Not just a sequence of instructions, but a function that operates on a space of inputs, some good, some bad. Almost like a quantum superposition of all possible

Ok and Cancel are the wrong button labels anyway. The Apple HIG say that buttons should be labeled with verbs that signify the action taken. For example, Cancel/No/Yes becomes "Don't Quit" "Don't Save" "Save". Much more intuitive, and it gi

I'm curious: how much of the web would you say is broken when you browse this way? Is there a difference between 'consumer' sites and 'pro' sites?

You must not have an eye for design. The original and plagiarized sites have identical typography and proportions in the navigation. The link you pasted looks only somewhat similar.

The main difference would be that that logic is generally applied to products which confer the consumer with no external benefits. On the other hand, using someone else's copyrighted material and passing it off as your own, using it as the

Big surprise: junior developers who've only been taught to architect for statically typed language are lost in dynamic languages.

It might provide little direct value to your development process, but the real question is, why are you posting this project on the internet? Do you think there is a chance it will be useful to others, and that they might contribute back pa

This always happens with technology videos. You can project a flat image onto a transparent screen? Call it a hologram! You can create fixed buttons? Suggest that it morphs into anything.

So... what incentive is there to make your services IPv6 compatible today other than geek cred? I set up an IPv6 tunnel at home, and recently added AAAA records to my web site (a tech blog). For my very technical audience, barely 1.8% traff

Funny. Universally, I've found the dining experience better in places where people don't tip... servers not pushing upgrades, no chasing people away to make room for new customers, knowing exactly how much you'll pay, plates not being snatc

The hypervisor analogy is silly IMO, because it assumes 'hardware assisted virtualization', i.e. that the simulated matter/instructions are implemented simply by using real matter/instructions in their normal way, but in a controlled enviro

The thing is, the BOM is metadata, it doesn't belong in content. It violates the contract of .txt files, which is: the entire file is a single string of content. Recognizing it at the edges of your program and stripping it out is not the en

This argument is silly. Why not prefix every UTF-8 string with a BOM then? It's wasteful and unnecessary, because UTF-8's clean structure already makes it trivial to detect, and false positives are all but impossible for real-world text. Th

So? There is a new version of the spec, go read it, learn how it's supposed to work, then decide which parts you want to implement. Point is, there is not a single HTML5 tag in 4chan's markup as far as I could see. They're completely missin

Functionality is minimal, execution is polished. It's not so much a contradiction, just a separation of concerns. And you could argue that in a crowded market, polished execution is in fact required to be viable.

Isn't it obvious? Torment wasn't a game, it was an interactive novel in disguise. The most interesting stuff in the game doesn't happen in the top half of the screen, it happens in the long lines of narrative and dialog at the bottom.
