The theme still disappoints me. Camino's not much better; Safari still beats anything on the Mac (I'm still using it as my default). But they finally added smooth scrolling, which was the major killer for me earlier. It made using Firefox a

Hirst isn't as bad as people say he is. It's an instance where people don't understand something and take it out by claiming hatred.

The Internet's changed the world of education. I can tell, in some of my classes, which of my fellow students were "raised" on the Internet and which weren't. There's a surprisingly large group of people that's stunning professors by unders

I gave my grandfather Chrome and renamed it to Internet Explorer. It worked. As an aside, the Firefox 3.6 beta came out recently and it might be the first Firefox on the Mac that doesn't suck. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Mozart's got a real sense of fun to his pieces. My reaction to him is the opposite of mine to Bach: I've never heard a Mozart piece that didn't sweep me away. His work is so rich and so full. I just had Chopin recommended to me as far as Ro

This needs to be voted up to the top. Possibly the best industrial designer that's ever been. Definitely top three in my book, along with Fukasawa and Ive.

There's still a lot of good stuff today. I really doubt we'll see any painters that revolutionize the form as much, at least not without significantly changing the tools of the medium. He turned painting into a pure creation of content, whe

Both, however, are instances of expressing disapproval without in turn adding something valuable. It was a ridiculous simile, but I understood his feeling because it's one I have also. When I take time and effort to argue something and get

2. Add to that Steve Reich and his Music For 18 Musicians. 3. I've never been particularly fond of Bach. His music's technically incredible, but it doesn't grab at me emotionally.

I'm not much of an art person, but I love Duchamp. Just saw his exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art a few weeks ago. I'm also an enormous Pollock fan. Smaller artists include Leonid Afremov, Rob Gonsalves, and David Lanham. With the e

Banksy's not bad, for what he is. In a lot of ways he's the cultural opposite of the Damien Hirst sort—everything Hirst likes Banksy hates and vice versa. But he's not particularly interesting stylistically, and a lot of his work is derivat

Coke's product is less sweet than Pepsi. What that means is that if you're drinking a lot of soda, Coke takes much longer to start tasting repulsive than Pepsi does, even though at first sip Pepsi might taste more delicious for some. That w

My only computer's the laptop, a 17" Macbook Pro. It's probably a bit too big—next computer I get I'll drop down to 15"—but it's not a computer I anticipate getting rid of any time soon. It's a bit grungy, but it works beautifully. OS X for

The problem with Achewood, and why it's never been a hit, is that you have to read from the first comic to really get into it. The humor is character-driven and very rich, and you don't get any of that without starting from the beginning. B

Blackberry's an enterprise product. It's still one of the most reliable workplace phones you can get. iPhone's trying to compete with it, but I think BB's still got the lead. Android's got nothing unique to it beyond its being open source.

What I find funny is that Randall fell victim to exactly what he accused Jim Davis of a long time ago. Early XKCD was, if not necessarily brilliant, unexpected and often very clever in its jokes. I know one of its earliest influences was Ac

The reason you couldn't cut and paste was that Apple doesn't release a feature until they polished it. They didn't let you make apps until they'd made the App Store, and there was a year of complaining, but when they finally did it they nai
