I imagine it's kind of like believing in the more extreme conspiracy theories (the dems are a bunch of satanic baby eaters) - deep down I reckon almost all "believers" know it's not true, but life is boring and these peo

Does SailfishOS run on phones available in America? I seem to remember considering it but then realizing it wouldn't be feasible for me (I'm in US)

it's often cheaper to buy a cd and rip to flac than to buy a hi-res download. Plus you also then have the cd to play on cd player!

This doesn't bother me so much as I would just not reply until the question comes. What pisses me off is when someone asks: "Can someone just quickly do x for me?". It trivializes the amount of work you are asking me to commi

Don't ask HN for weight loss tips. A lot of programmers are overweight but also very arrogant, which leads to them thinking they can take the lazy route of doing some hack such as drinking some weight loss shake or doing keto, and good

I thought the Mediterranean diet was what we should all be eating, which would include a lot of olive oil. But that document suggests olive oil is high in monosaturated fats and thus not as healthy as canola oil (poly). Lolwut??

I could drive myself crazy paying too much attention to this stuff. Eat a balanced diet, lots of plants, not too much added sugar, not too much saturated fat. Don't eat more than you need. Get some exercise.

I don't believe you are describing even 5% of remote software engineers. And those 5% would find ways to not do anything even in the office, but then they could also distract others so they are better off at home.

The people advocating for a move back to the office are managers who's jobs seem more and more pointless the longer remote work is happening.

I can't believe how many people commenting are resorting to crazy eating schedules and skipping meals. Surely a healthier diet, regular exercise, not too much caffeine, booze etc is a healthier way to lose weight and sleep better.

You need exercise and a healthy diet to lose weight. Sure you could sit on the couch all day and eat very little and you'd probably lose weight, but you'd have to eat so little that it probably wouldn't be possible without de

I am currently learning Perl, and I love it so far. It seems very powerful for doing stuff with text. I get the impression people might say I am crazy for learning it in 2022 over, say, Python, but I am not sure why.
