Great to see this--there are some nice features that encourage using standard web technologies like forms, and some solid quality of life improvements. However, I'm disappointed (but not surprised, this was listed as out of scope for 1

Are you sure about localhost? I'm not familiar with other libpq clients, but psql definitely always resolves localhost to an IP address for me. You're right about it accepting a path (and defaulting to a compile-time selected UNIX

Copyright is not optimized for making sure artists and authors get enough to eat. It's optimized for people with a lot of money to make even more money by exploiting artists and authors. I doubt there's a simple answer (I certainl

Neverwinter Nights was a PC game. I don't believe it ever had a console release. I thought the radial menu worked well in that game.

But they're still separate files. You still have your markup in one place and your CSS in another place, and you need to solve the hardest problem in computer science (naming things) any time you make substantial changes. I think Tailw

I laughed at that, too, but the commenter, Greg Smith (disclosure: a former colleague) has been involved with Postgres for ages, and concludes that Rust would not actually be a magic bullet here.

That sounds like a crummy thing to do to the people in the lab.

Neat, but Postgres version numbering changed with v10. 9.6, 9.5, 9.4, 9.3, 9.2, 9.1, 9.0, 8.4, 8.3, 8.2, 8.1, and 8.0 are effectively all distinct major versions. It'd be interesting to see how perf changed with those.

What do you think about non-SQL CRDT frameworks like Automerge and Y.js and how they fit into this local-first future?

That's sad to hear. I only met Simon briefly at a conference a decade ago, but I've worked at companies based around Postgres for almost twenty years now. Given his work both on Postgres directly and in founding 2nd Quadrant, I do

As a sibling comment guessed, btree indexes in Postgres can store ordered data much more efficiently than random data. Inserting randomly ordered data leads to fragmentation, with lots of empty space on your index pages.

That's a false dichotomy. Bandcamp will sell me music I can download _and_ let me stream it. But separately, I don't want stewardship for my data to rest with whoever I transact with to acquire that data. Why not a digital locker

Folk interfaces are a natural consequence of the focus on building applications for millions of users and the dearth of situated software [1]. They're also a clever way of claiming no-code or low-code platforms in unexpected places. [1
