I tried the pomodoro technique yesterday. I had one successful pomodoro on the morning when it was quiet, and then when I went to take five minutes to clear a few things away before starting the next pomodoro, those five minutes some how be

Good article, but I found it a bit disorienting that I knew it was supposed to be a list of 10, but the numbers on each step kept resetting to 1 after each pull-quote.

another thing that ruins reproducible builds is date stamps in the executable. Microsoft's C++ compiler has that issue. I'm not sure how common that is in other compilers

I have two kids 10 and 12 who are absolutely hooked on scratch right now to the point where they spend hours a day. They are learning a lot. I think it is a great language for learning. It is limited in a lot of ways, but not having to typ

I agree with some of the other posters who are saying that that it is difficult to figure out what this does or who it is for. There's a huge headline saying "nodes for everyone". So, it's for my grandmother and my son

Now, imagine going back in time to 1996 and trying to explain to people in the supercomputer lab that 25 years later there would be legions of people using portable supercomputers because you need this to build javascript applications for w

How is it that the decompiled camera code has interesting variable names and even comments? I was expecting it to look more like the decompiled code from this article... With made-up and uninformative variable names. You mentioned collabor

True.. at this point I have figured out how to remap the qwerty ctrl-c ctrl-v etc to work as cut paste under Dvorak so having dedicated keys might just involve too much retraining, so maybe it would not be worthwhile

I was recently looking at another site linked from HN which had dozens of split keyboard designs. One of the ones that I really liked was the Matias Ergopro, which has dedicated Cut/copy/paste/undo keys. That seems really co

For me it was the arrow keys that drove me nuts and made me return my sculpt keyboard. I realized that without having some space around them, I needed to look down every time I wanted to find them.

That's great. I also got interested to read about Erlang and the original Actor pattern there. In your motivation doc I clicked the Erlang/OTP link to the main Erlang page, but I kind of had the same problem there, of having a h

Thanks, because from the github page I had no idea what "Actor" meant, though I was interested to know more. Reading the code sample did not give me any better idea what was meant by the word "Actor" It would be great i

There's installation and then there's setup. I would agree with you that installation on linux is easy these days, but setup... no. I have tried moving over to linux several times throughout the years, but setup was always a huge

This is contrary to my experience. For instance if the types of function parameters aren't specified, the IDE won't have any way of knowing what the types of those parameters are and will therefore not be helpful with completio

I think rather than having to upload and describe each tile independently, it would be better to come up with a system which allows related sets of related tiles to be uploaded as a group Something like 9-slicing comest to mind ( https:

I dunno, I work in C++ in games and we spend way too much time thinking about how to manage memory. It's not a breeze at all.

Very similar to my story. But I'm curious, why would you need to use blank keycaps to learn Dvorak? I have always just typed on a regular QWERTY keyboard with software remapping to make it Dvorak. In that case, looking down at the k
