My side-project, http://isitnormal.com , was one of the reasons that I got a fantastic job as an early member of the Yahoo! Answers team. Is It Normal certainly passes the "sketchy" test, and it was even much more sketchy back in the day,

I built a device to catch the mail that comes through the slot in my front door. It had previously been falling on the floor and driving me crazy. One day I came across this nice product, http://www.amazon.com/SNAIL-SAKK-Mail-Receptacle-S

"Remember what a startup is, economically: a way of saying, I want to work faster. Instead of accumulating money slowly by being paid a regular wage for fifty years, I want to get it over with as soon as possible. " http://www.paulgraham.c

This reminds of something a friend once said to me. He said, "If you've never missed your flight, you're spending way too much time at the airport."

I'm curious what your audience was like. Young? Old? Tech Savvy? Did your site focus on something potentially embarrassing if it would end up on your FB profile?

http://isitnormal.com has a pretty ordinary internet audience. Certainly not designers or developers. Regular folks. Here's the resolution data from GA for the last month (roughly 1 million visits): 1280x800: 19.62% 1024x768: 16.88% 13

This "Guess the Dictator" game was a hit years ago, http://www.smalltime.com/Dictator . It's pretty much the same thing and they're lots of fun. http://hunch.com is leveraging this type of decision tree learning nicely today.

http://isitnormal.com - Niche Q&A site that's been around for a while. Recently added a lot of cool features and it hasn't gotten much press in a long time.

If you didn't require this I would have submitted my side project. It's a few years old already and "announcing" it on HN seems odd.
