It seems similar, but try to buy from ebay/craigslist anything in a reasonable volume, clean it, test it, ship it for less.

Amazing price point. Are the computer parts refurbished? Otherwise I wonder where do you get 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD, and other older components at good prices these days? Usually, parts get cheaper as the become replaced by newer versions, but t

I am curious whether it gets more and more (legally) tricky for employees of large tech-companies to have side-projects. For example, if I am working at Google/Amazon/Microsoft. What side projects won't get me into legal prob

Looks like Seagate drives are at a very good price point for them, enough to compensate for the higher failure rates. It looks like Blackblaze managed to build a system with good fault tolerance, such that they can control the $-price/

I feel for the guy. At the same time one can argue that if len ( Proof1 ) < len ( Proof2 ), where Proof1 and Proof2 are of the same theorem, then Proof1 imposes less cost, and hence is more valuable, since it will be easier to teach, us

Reminds me of the movie Snowpiercer, where there is a scene with an industrial size device that creates protein bars from insects.

This would be such a nostalgia-inducing device. I used to spend countless hours playing and writing BASIC on a Soviet clone of the original ZX Spectrum. What I don't understand about this device, is whether it will allow for 2 players.

I had the same interpretation of the landing, about 10 days ago. "My guess is that Philae landed tumble-weed style, jumping, and rolling until it hit a wall, in this case, the cliff that shadows it." https://news.yco

Went to see what is Smarterer about. Is it me or the UI of their testing product looks very much like Duolingo? Are they related?

Yep. That's rude, and doesn't actually mean that the refusing party was being productive/busy at the time. It just means "not now". There could be 100 reasons why.

I agree with the above. Forgive me for being cynical about the whole premise. Saying no like this can also be used by people that fake being busy. The same way they always walk with a notepad and pens, and other such tricks. So Dustin said

Philae's landing is commonly represented as a vertical descent. In fact, it seems there was considerable lateral velocity. My guess is that Philae landed tumble-weed style, jumping, and rolling until it hit a wall, in this case, the cl

I wonder if it would've been worthwhile to put a flea-like mechanism on Philae to jump around the commet. Looks like in that kind of gravity pull, you don't need a lot of force to jump high, and the damage from falling is also muc

This might be very useful for reading academic papers, because most of the time people scribble notes while reading. It's funny how having solved the battery problem (3 weeks on one charge), they still can't solve the speed proble

Watching a Tarkovsky movie is a very interesting experience. People that never did are in for a treat. All you need are good subtitles. One might say that a movie is a movie, a sequence of images, and it can't be that much different. Y
