A password is just plain text, which apart from being bruteforced, can easily be phished. There are so many things wrong with using a password even if it's fairly complex. Instead, stick to passkeys and SSH keys

You cared enough to say that. I just can't help it when incompetent people post on subjects that they have no clue about. Ignorance is in abundance on HN, I am not surprised

Exactly, it's a really poor attempt to make it appealing to the larger audience. Unless they roll out a version for nojs, they are the same as "AI" scrapers on enshittyfying the web

Anubis adds a cookie name `within.website-x-cmd-anubis-auth` which can be used by scrapers for not solving it more than once. Just have a fleet of servers whose sole purpose is to extract the cookie after solving the challenges and make sur

PoW captchas are not new. What's different with Anubis? How can it possibly prevent "AI" scrapers if the bots have enough compute to solve the PoW challenge? AI companies have quite a lot of GPUs at their disposal and I would

For fuck's sake, stop with the academic POV. Look at it practically, it's all just an overly complex system with no actual merit

That's boring. How can someone start a conversation like that? It leads to nowhere and the person is now way more disinterested in talking to you. Best way is to talk about books, games, TV shows, etc. It's something you can easil

I was talking about more than just a blog. It puts things into different perspective when you are writing a big program. For instance, you are tasked on creating a custom auth. Would you feel more comfortable after having used something lik
