Consider the scaling factor for salaries; My salary is on the high end in my area, but would be on the low end of a living wage in the Bay Area. My salary is in the neighborhood of 120k; I'm a senior-level engineer with almost a decade

Why in the world was Flipkart regexing for an "X is undefined" message? That seems as brittle as possible.

This is really neat! I'm a big fan of Crystal-lang, and I dig the similarity in the sense of "let's start with Ruby-like syntax, and add more static structure". I can see the difference here as being that Bon appears to

Yeah, I left a negative review for a startup where I worked, and it was the first review (I actually had to create an entry for the startup in order to leave the review). I tried to be balanced about the things that attracted me there in th

This can also often mean that they intend to try to replace your actual family in terms of how your hours each day are spent, which for many is unacceptable, no matter how shiny-happy-euphemistic "like a family" may sound.

I'm not so sure that's true. There's a library that has X number of users. The library authors release v2 of that library, and it's a total rewrite. If every single user of v1 adopted v2, then you'd still have X num

Sync is good, but if they want to sway me away from either Firefox or Chrome, that sync needs to include syncing with a mobile browser. Otherwise it satisfies a 20% case for sync while missing the 80% case.

A substantial one, really. I'd go so far as to say my "life as a hacker" (or, well, software developer) has a "place" in my life with God, rather than vice-versa. Full disclosure: the rest of this post is going to b

Does there exist something along the lines of Typescript for Lua that adds optional type annotations and static analysis?

Even syntactically, this looks a lot like if you took ReasonML, disallowed type annotations, did away with its ecosystem, and compiled to WebAssembly. Aside from the wasm compilation, I don't see why this exists.

St. Simon's Island was a childhood vacation spot for me. I loved it. Having gone back just this year for the first time in over 20 years, I realized I like it even more now that I can enjoy the small-beach-town atmosphere and the deep-

Salesforce is a company that operates in Europe. They already have to comply with GDPR (and have already spent tons of dev time on scrambling to comply). They're ready for GDPR, and so they're probably betting they're ready f

Shifting a schedule is one thing (in fact, I work on a shifted schedule on days I commute; from 6:45am or 7am to 3pm, due to bad local traffic); cutting your workday effectively in half is another. This article is touting "forget your
