Our landing page is suffering from the same disease - anyone willing to help us out, we're missing a marketing person in our team :)

While I think HN could use some UX improvements, this attempt adds too much noise while adding little value.

There is nothing inherently wrong with reading TC - if nothing else, it gives you a better feeling what your vision/goal might be. With that said, what you need NOT to do is follow it blindly. Use it for what it is: a news medium;

While this might be working for the author, I couldn't take this approach, since there is just too much compromises I'd have to take. Being a Rails developer, I have to constantly run tests, refresh browser and write code, and to do this as

Based on my experience, most startup ideas get their MVPs done as a side projects, since rarely anyone can afford just to drop everything and pursue it. One sentence did raise an alert in my head: stealth mode. No startup should ever be i

The obvious question, how much? (I'm aware you can't give precise numbers, but would be nice to have a feeling how much 1 year startup is valuated at).

There you have it, an excellent idea for a startup! Nothing drastically "disruptive" but a viable business nonetheless :) Regarding the service, I have yet to find one like this myself.

Try asking a non-savvy user to use Metro. Or do anything when logged in to Windows 8 for the first time for that matter. They mixed mobile and desktop approach within the same OS. Time will tell, but I'm not betting on it. I may be wrong t

This time around MS did it right with IE10 - however they fucked it up with Windows 8 (on which it runs) really badly. Hopefully the version for windows 7 will be released sooner rather than later.

It's much easier to see the workflow and listen to someone speak, than read a complex article.

Couldn't disagree more. HN community is the most (brutally) honest and it's feedback can prove very valuable - regardless whether HNers are the target market or not.

Not true, for a startup, virtualization is the most cost effective way of hosting applications/websites. We have a physical server with 32GB RAM and on it four virtual machines for different purposes. None of them breaks any sweat.

You're focusing on the wrong term with your thoughts. It should be 'minimum' part that is in question here. If you're building a new GPS service and need actual satellite development and launch, then minimum may be millions of $. MVP is not

Or just changing kernel version? It's quite fascinating really, especially in 2012 to give up because of software failure.

Yes, new (or more importantly, useful) features are one of the best ways of growth. If they are poorly designed, that's another story :)

If there was a time for Microsoft to make amends for all the bullshit we, web developers had to put up with in the past 10 years or so, it is now. Hopefully they'll catch up with Firefox and Chrome.

Well I'm planning a series of blog posts in the near future, but there's so much going on that we need to focus and take it step by step. One thing I want to mention, if you want to experience the "core" functionality. Change your role to '

True story (mine): I knew a car dealer that made it very clear to me that if I buy the new car from him (and leave the old one there for a lower price) he'll give me significant discount. I said to myself "can't hurt to try" and went this r
