iex runs smoothly because of erlang's console and ExUnit runs in parallel leveraging BEAM, so it's considerable. The foundation was pretty much there from the beginning.

I use boostnote[0] for my personall stuff and slab[1] at work. Boostnote can sync my notes with dropbox and supports markdown and code snippets with a nice desktop app and is free. Slab has a collaboration functionality similar to google do

I can speak for Erlang when coming to immutable data structures and the memory issue. Since erlang's processes are basicaly a recursive function, once the process dies or it calls itself (with tail-call optimization), unused structures

The fact that there's a ton of related websites shouldn't ever stop you from doing a simple side project, since it's for learning purposes anyway. And a "copy" of something can always shift into something original.
