I think an extension of this is: how do we convert free to paid...? My thoughts were for my own SaaS application was to: - offer free account to "get a listing" - upgrading to a paid account gives ridiculous service/benefit - a commission

At startup has these characteristics (only): 1. Is a business that makes money. 2. See point 1. above Everything else is considered either art (as in artist) or hobby. Examples of non-startups: 1. A iPhone developer with 1 app, no revenue

I wouldn't refer to it a rejection letter, rather understand that they just aren't investing in your company/team at this time. Maybe do a "Ask HN: How can I improve my team, business model, etc." and we can all crowd-source improve your id

I'm in the process of setting up Beanstream - seem like nice guys out there! And they give test accounts, etc. Very friendly. When you call the 1800 number, someone answers the phone!

privacy issue - i wouldn't want anyone knowing all my personal details. especially to the public. maybe a hide / block feature. but then this would just become another .docx/.pdf resume site. i like the idea of being able to share/critique.

Rather than just another search tool, why not add some basic "AI" into the mix: eg: searching "restaurant near Vancouver, BC" would use Yelp, "Facebook" would use google, and so on.
