I think the biggest difference between successful devs and unsuccessful ones is the hunger for constant learning and improvement. You can lack that hunger if you have a CS degree or not. I've observed this at my company and others I&#x

The recruiter told me I had 3 really positive reviews and 2 somewhat positive and 1 negative review. It's usually more feedback than I expect from companies but it was good to hear. It also matched with my expectations knowing how the

The final code in the "Squeezing performance 2" section looks scary. I'll admit I'm not an expert in CL and have only written Clojure, but that does not look like idiomatic CL. A good comparison would be idiomatic C++ vs

I would say a real secret weapon for startups would be C++. If your service/product is 10 to 20x faster than your competitors using mainly interpreted or GC languages... That extra bit of performance is something you can actually marke

Assuming Trudeau doesn't have another gaff or corruption scandal.. But I'm not holding out hope. Although NDP looks weak as hell too... I'm depressed for the future of this country.

I'm currently helping re-architect large subsytems inside our multi million line C++ codebase (large commercial desktop app) using data-oriented design. It's working quite well so far, but we're only a few months into the pro

It's really not. Knowing how to solve those leetcode questions has not improved my professional life one bit. I am not a better programmer.. In fact it probably made me worse. At my work I pretty much never deal with the kind of coding

I've noticed that exactly. IQ presumably is something inherent.. But personal experience shows that technical interviews have nothing to do with IQ. They can be easily solved by creating a dynamic programming problem pattern matcher in

One thing I would say about the whole "good enough is good enough" mentality is that if everyone has that mentality in a company, your code quality will decline so far that it will be impossible to get anything done in the future.
