This is what surprises me the most about these stories of dealing with Google/Apple app stores. Most of the apps that aren't produced by very well-known studios or large corporations are just trash. There are few gems here and the

See absolutely nothing wrong with this quote. The "scientific method" is almost a meaningless term because it means different things to different branches of study - discouraging its use for more accurate terminology makes perfect

This is what I have been thinking. This whole thing has soured in my mind: Jane Street, Effective Altruism. Crypto, VCs, Silicon Valley culture in general I already assumed are scummy.

Is iMessage an American phenomena mostly? I don't know a single South Asian or Chinese person who uses iMessage. In Canada, most people use WhatsApp or Messenger, and some tech-savvy millenials use Signal.

Switching a few key libraries like OpenSSL to using quantum-resistant cryptography is WAY WAY easier than constructing a viable quantum computer (in secret) that is able to break 512 bit or 1024 bit key RSA.

The only thing I can think of is somehow speeding up drug discovery or materials research by accelerating atomistic simulation. However that's so far from reality it's hard to tell whether it will actually be faster in practice. (

There are dozens of TUI projects in C. None come close to the ease of use of Textual. I'm not sure I buy this idea of "someone's gonna rewrite in C" as a rule.

This Copilot saga is another good reminder of why nothing is free. Developers have been using Github for free for years - now the chickens have come home to roost. The copyright licenses are just a formality - a form of kayfabe. If you aren
