That's one hell of a bet. I'm actually surprised that Buffet didn't want to buy the bank's debt offerings (if there are any). I haven't read past the first couple paragraphs (too much legalese) but is there an out clause? If BoA tanks in

If they supported git pushing a war file, then I wonder what the performance improvements would be with Warble-ing a RoR app and running it on a JVM? Edit Oh wait, they already did. But not using a WAR file it seems. For example, JRuby

This is a naive question but why did Icelandic banks allow such a bubble to happen? I realize it's not easy to see the forest from the trees, but isn't there some point at which banks start to see that they are taking on too much debt?

Why downvote my question? It's a valid attempt to understand how HN filters duplicate stories. The dupes are also representative of the Internet at large. When a large story breaks, tonnes of people rush out to be "the one" who broke it o

Edison? Please...that's a bit much. Edison personally created the majority of his inventions. Jobs has an entire company/team behind him. And Jonathan Ives is a big help when it comes to the sleek design of Apple products.

Agreed. If it does tank, I'll be lining up to buy shares. Throughout all the turbulence of the markets lately, AAPL has been holding up well.

Wow there are 9 duplicate stories on HN right now. Doesn't HN have a duplicate submission filter?

13+ years of programming experience with C#, AJAX, JAVASCRIPT, XML, XSL, HTML, DHTML, CSS, SSP.NET, Microsoft SQL Server technologies, PHP, MySQL, and other open source technologies So that takes us back to 1998. Where was C# in 1998? H

I never thought of using KeyNote to design a UI. I always thought designers use Photoshop or InDesign for that purpose. Is KeyNote used just for the ease of use, or is there some other requirement that the Adobe products don't measure up t

Fast food is absolutely not the cheapest alternative Well jeebus... of course I meant compared to sitting down at other restaurants. That's what the article was stating.

I read the article. But I'm looking past the words and not believing the BS from the reporter or the PR department. The nutritional information on snack wraps and lattes shows that McDonalds is still trying their old tactics, but dressing

Interesting article. IMO, the Internet is making people more connected but it's having the disastrous effect of causing people to consume too much information. Normal memory functions are being altered and attention spans are decreasing. I

Then what about the wave of death [1] that happens to people? The body can still release pent up energy well after brain death, but it doesn't necessarily mean the person can be brought back to life. [1] http://news.discovery.com/human/n

I completely agree. I've been told many times, even in university by seemingly educated professors, that disk space is not a major factor while programming. But that doesn't mean it can be dismissed either. I have seen some terrible waste
