I don't look like a "poor bloke who has trouble talking to people" because I learned pickup and learned how to talk to people. I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time and be taken under the wings of th

It is me, but it was taken probably around 2005, when I was 24. Funny how much things change over the years...

Yeah... this is my 12th cruise or so now. I really love them. For a while I was going twice a year pretty regularly. The cruise aggregator started as a way for me to find the best prices (because cruisehotsheet.com went down), and I decided

Thank you! I actually redesigned it to be simpler on the flight over to where the cruise started.

Will be writing that post very soon... I don't normally submit my own posts to HN, but I will submit that one if no one else does.

Original author here... I wrote the post in transit between those ports. On cruises you go to a lot of ports... this particular one ends up in Florida (Florence to Florida, with 8 stops or so)

Author of the post, confirmed asshole, here. In most cruise ships you do not tip for anything until the end, and it is a flat rate. Enjoy.

I'm the creator of this site... I tried some algorithms to build something like this. The problem is that there are peak seasons that make the price crazy expensive. To be on contiguous ships all year, the best price seemed to be aroun

Scraping from a few sources and coallating the data. Hoping I make some money of commissions to fund buying access to good data.

Thanks for the feedback. This was just a weekend project, so I have a lot of improvements to make, but not a ton of spare time to dedicate to them. I'll get there, though. The low price is double occupancy-- a few people have gotten st

I forget exactly what we paid, but it was ~$7500, I think. Expensive, but we figured that it would build some trust and wouldn't be an embarrassing domain to have in your blog title (sett.com/alec vs superblog9000.com/alec).

Sett ( http://sett.com ) It's a new blogging platform that helps people build audiences. Our oldest users (1 year) have seen roughly 100% increase in daily traffic, twice as many comments, etc. My personal blog has doubled da

Haha, thanks. I had a great time communal living in school. Everyone involved in the island is trustworthy, fair, reasonable, etc., so I think it will be good. We also outlined ways to deal with disputes in advance.

Not really. Did as much research as I could, and most of the value of the island to me is having a group of friends with an island to build up by our own designs. Also, we did check it out before wiring the money. If it was burnt down or so

We saw an unusually high amount of cemeteries on the way to the island... if the zombies rise up, we are totally screwed.

I've seen those-- would prefer something with windows, and it would need to be able to withstand some pretty serious weather (maybe those can... haven't researched). Thinking probably a 30' yurt for the communal building, and

Thanks-- this is all very good relevant advice. Hadn't thought about digesting composter at all, but that's a great idea. I don't mind too much if people respectfully visit the island when we're not there. We told the re
