'Gift' is a word I wish I saw more often in the vicinity of 'open source'. I love open source software. I love that there can be a community around any project, no matter how small. It's a powerful philosophy. But I wish more people would u

I was thinking the same thing. This site is a pretty good example of "wrong hands"—a bunch of RIM employees.

So that means you're working with an unsaved, untitled file until you're completely satisfied with the post? That doesn't seem very safe. Unless you're saving your drafts in another location and copying them into your "site", but if so, how

This is great news and I hope it helps do all that others are saying, like improve pricing. I've had a Bitbucket account for a while and never used it, mainly because I'm more comfortable with git. But after poking around Bitbucket and impo

Samsung's products are so aesthetically similar that their own marketing people get confused and just use Apple assets. Based on everything I've heard about Jobs' "negotiation" style, I'm sure the phone call was completely civil. No yelling

As a long-time Tumblr user I've always wondered, do they have income? There are no ads on the site, and no premium plans or pricing (other than the paid themes, but I assume that most of that goes to the theme's author) that I can see. How

Other than working on a Facebook app via my job, Facebook serves as a pretty accurate inverse metric of my productivity. If I've been on Facebook a lot during a given week, I know that I haven't been that productive. If I sign on, see a bun

Some of these are hard to understand from their one-line descriptions. e.g. 'Remove useless icons from Safari's bookmark bar'? Maybe a blog post is in order?

I would extend this to just about anybody who could be considered a "geek". Photography, Programming, Writing, everything. There is so much discussion over tools and process that everyone forgets to actually make stuff. Which reminds me, I

I'm not loyal to Apple. I do like Gruber's writing though, so I was defending his use of the word 'truth'. I said what I thought it meant, including a related link to the concept on Wikipedia. What are some examples in which Apple misrepres

I don't think he meant truth in terms of marketing (although I'm hard-pressed to think of a case where Apple has outright lied in their ads, but maybe in a release) but truth as design fundamental. Based on the context of that sentence I wo

Without my Mac I would not have learned how to code. I would not have been able to find employment in Web Development, something I enjoy so much. Without my many iPods over the years I would not be as huge a music fan as I am now. I may not

Please don't use the word 'hipster' and expect to be taken seriously. So many groups of people have been tagged with it that it's completely meaningless.

Flickr costs 24.95/year for a pro account, giving you unlimited storage, sets, collections, stats and no ads. So I don't think the analogy really works.

I hate this kind of 'design' and constantly wonder how these firms that make these kinds of conceptual, artists' renderings stay in business. It's totally searching for solutions to problems that don't exist, and even worse, creating proble

I'm by no means an expert but I know that most record labels begin as partnerships or individual endeavours. They start with one or two releases from either their own band or friends. Sub Pop and Electra Records[1] are great examples of thi

It's not in a very obvious place. Downloading the mysql source is one of the most annoying experiences I've had on an OSS site. Iframes, select boxes, login forms! Just give me a list!

Completely agreed. There is too much value placed on market share. To a business what should be more important? Market share or profit? It's pretty obvious to me.
