I think this quote: > > The days of people running and maintaining their own are pretty much long gone Is less about the pieces you've mentioned, and more about reliable delivery without fighting blacklists, ip/domain reputa

What a criminal record does to your ability to get a job these days, as compared to the past is pretty harsh. Back in the 80's and prior, you could work at a smaller place that didn't have the capability to do background checks.

Visits drive revenue. Declining traffic is declining revenue. Not an issue yet, but eventually...

I won't call it dead, but it is declining. Their various sources of traffic are now regurgitating Wikipedia Content (and other 3rd party sources) via uncited/unlinked AI "blurbs"...instead of presenting snippets of Wiki

Interesting example, as Google used to link to Wikipedia much more prominently, then stopped doing that, which dropped Wikipedia's visitor counts a lot. A very large percentage of Wikipedia's visits are Google referrals. Google s

OVH has been doing liquid cooling for quite a while, and is now using immersion also. Somewhat surprising to see at that dirt cheap end of the market.

Homelessness in the US. They steal carts to carry their stuff around, or to collect trash aluminum cans to earn money, etc. In certain areas, it's pretty common and probably crosses the cost:benefit line for stores.

I wasn't pitching it as a solid commercial idea. Just that you can get (perhaps fiddly) three states out into the real world with something cheap that already exists. Like: https://idle-spark.blogspot.com/2015/04&

Looting also has a much lower incentive if you flood the now much tinier area where people live with more food, medical supplies, etc, than they need.

Flood the relatively tiny area, with enough deliveries directly to the right places and people, with more food and supplies than is needed.

Hamas is an exacerbating symptom, not a primary cause. A decades-long apartheid breeds fierce, brutal resistance.

An option to run the potentially harmful script in a rootless container, then dump filesystem diffs, audit events, etc...might be helpful. I get containers aren't perfect isolation, but...

Probably historical preference for portability without a bunch of #ifdef means platform+version-specific stuff is very late to get adopted. Though, at this point, the benefit of portability across various posixy platforms is much lower.

Listing two is better than nothing, but it's not great. If one goes down, there's nothing that tracks which one is working, so you usually see long hangs and intermittent issues. Unless you do something fancy with a local caching

So no bounty because it's not a security problem. But the MV3 API they are deleting, they say...is being deleted for security reasons. Not at all to hobble ad blockers.

"Trainium accelerator" doesn't sound like it would be terribly useful outside it's current niche. It's not clear how much of the spend is that kind of thing versus general purpose compute and storage.

They do at least link to that in the 4th paragraph of the article. Many of these summary articles don't do that.

Rsync is pretty closely tied to unixy concepts of permissions, paths, access times, etc. You can find some rsync based tools for Windows, but IMO, it's a square peg / round hole unless you're using it inside of WSL.

I know you're saying you don't have to use it, but for any that didn't know, WSL2 does ship with it's own Wayland. And it does have some weird bugs.

Pretty impressive. One watch out is that MS has control of many knobs that can ruin it. At the moment, your app is what comes back first if I click "Apps" and search "Wiki". I imagine MS can change that on a whim. Th
