Agreed. Joel is growing old :-) He is young enough to keep up with major valley developments (Twitter and YComb) but too old to have a grasp on technical details (Java-to-JS-compilers, for instance). Another thing he is wrong about is "moor

Nothing of what I have written above applies to these 3. Neither can be written by a 14 year old over a weekend, YouTube is a lot of tech to handle. Flickr never nad problems with users paying for their services. Finally, del.icio.us does

Sure will do. By the way I should have mentioned things I loved :-) "Previous conversations" panel is very useful even though it has a bit too much noise in it. Connected people started to make sense a bit later (because of your sorting) -

He complains about shitty over-hyped products that can be easily copied by a 14-year old over a weekend. He complains about sea of companies that make stuff that nobody wants because nobody is paying for it. One thing for sure: over half of

I have been running it all day today and want to share my experience and thoughts. First, our company is about 60 people. And every person I click on is "connected" to everybody, I suppose simply because at some point he or she emailed to t

Xobni guys, I have been very curious about what you were doing. I just installed it at work. Awesome! My email (actually, Outlook) does suck less now. I can finally search! ... which I don't need to do much anymore since most of the stuff I

I can't even begin to explain how stupid you look by bashing something you obviously have not even tried to use. Do you have any idea how much time an average Joe spends in front of Outlook? It is easily 2nd most popular (or should I say

Bla-bla-bla... Another healthy dose of "Web 2.0 BS" SMS, IM, chat, blogs with comments and message boards have been around forever: 10 years easy. Somehow ex-CTO of AOL managed to stay mostly unaware of those things for quite some time.

All of the issues he mentioned are Dell's fault, not Ubuntu's. If you take a "naked-iron" laptop, regardless of the manufacturer, and install a boxed version of Windows on it, it will be the same thing (if not worse): you will have to hunt

Once "citizen journalizm" gains widespread popularity, expect reddit and digg have their front pages occupied by Paris Hilton news, fart stories, soft porn and updates on mysteries of Anna Nicole's tragic death. Real crowds suck.

Yea... and then when you're finally know what to do, you're held back by bottlenecks and deficits of your editor/IDE. Doing "context switch" on your brain, switching from the problem you're programming to "how the heck do I tell it to sto

Valid point. However, NewsGator, FeedBurner and FeedReader are all well aware of that fact. I've been part of a consumer-grade RSS startup myself. We were trying really hard to educate users (we made a big deal about it) we've been trying t

I did get it. How exactly are you different from 100+ other RSS readers/aggregators? It is so incredibly easy to aggregate anything form the web today that I simply miss your value proposition.

I disagree. Browsers still do not let you embed your data (files) into submitted pages conveniently. We are still unable to easily grab a file and email it to 5 people using webmail. Moreover, even slightly complex documents (i.e. with MO

You may be confusing email with instant messaging. As a channel for exchanging documents (as opposed to messages) email (and desktop email especially) is still indispensable. You are 100% right about lack of security though.

Gmail is my choice only because it is relatively ad-free. Lack of folders, down-my-throat "conversations" instead of individual messages and pathetic editor are a pain in the back. Gmail sucks when you're managing 4-5 simultaneous email t
