The article starts of a little depressing, telling the reader that humans are bad at programming and we have no hope. At least it finishes telling us we just need to use a bunch of cool toys to look smarter.

I think the use of some of these strategies mentioned are what should be best practice. Code coverage checkers and code analysis tools, most specifically.

I understand that it definitely isn't the case, was really just making a joke about the fact that someone who strikes it rich turns down a normal job right after.

I don't really agree with the mobile browsing. I guess it helps avoid getting sucked in but it also dramatically lowers your rate of intake if you want to read all articles from a given blog or subject.

I'm not entirely sure I understand the logic here, and being not a math student myself I'm sure my original statement is likely to be wrong. However, I don't see how the set of numbers found in an infinite number of trials would be countabl

I think you're missing the point. While it's _extremely_ unlikely that the next random number produced would be Pi, in an infinite scale it can (and theoretically would) happen because it is, in fact, possible to occur.

The BBC article refers to the people who took down MPAA/RIAA etc with a DDoS script "hackers", interesting.

I think the safe way, if you want to follow that policy, is to say you develop for the JRE or for the JVM. Neither of these are lies, but they keep with the original idea of keeping peoples focus on "Java".

Thanks, I'm now going to cringe every time I hear someone use "sorry I'm getting old" as an excuse for forgetting something.

I think there's a big difference between "omfg bugs" and "The bottom line is currently there is nothing that you cannot do to someone's Diaspora account, absolutely nothing" from http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/09/16/diaspora_pre_alpha_l

People define "good developers" as those who are extremely passionate about their work. They come home code more or read/blog about code. It's not entirely surprising that the people of this mold are a minority in the field.

The page should also mention that this software is pre-alpha release. Even on HN people are freaking out about things not working properly, sucks that this is already giving people bad feelings.

I think these are good ideas to get a different view on candidates who love problems like these or see one that they are willing to do the problem set research about, but for this reason, should not be a "requirement" for candidates.

I agree with zts. Having a giant "login with facebook!" button immediately followed by a prompt to give my credit card information does not make me feel comfortable.

I feel like it's important to compare this to things in the "real world". You have the right to free speech, but you're probably going to be quickly ordered to leave a church if you begin swearing loudly. You have the right to bear arms, bu
